Cambridge Audio Melomania P100SE - Refined sound, even greater comfort

The latest headphones from English company Cambridge Audio, the new Cambridge Audio Melomania P100SE over-ear headphones, are designed for enjoying music on the go.

Story Highlights
  • Cambridge Audio now presents the Cambridge Audio Melomania P100SE as new over-ear headphones with integrated active noise cancellation.

The English company Cambridge Audio can point to a very broad product range, which interestingly includes headphones in the so-called Cambridge Audio Melomania Series. Such as the Cambridge Audio Melomania P100 over-ear headphones. These are based on the Cambridge Audio Melomania P100 over-ear headphones presented almost exactly one year ago and are a special edition, as the English company emphasises.

The new Cambridge Audio Melomania P100SE over-ear headphones have been improved in terms of both sound and wearing comfort, as emphasised by Cambridge Audio.

The successor to the Cambridge Audio P100 over-ear headphones

It is the chosen successor to the Cambridge Audio P100 over-ear headphones, which are now being launched as the Cambridge Audio Melomania P100SE over-ear headphones, according to Cambridge Audio, which refers to them as wireless travel headphones with integrated active noise cancellation. Like its predecessor, these headphones will once again be characterised by Great British Sound, a long battery life and a high level of comfort.

40 mm drivers and Class A/B for the finest sound

The new Cambridge Audio Melomania P100SE over-ear headphones also focus on a driver with a diameter of 40 mm, which uses a sandwich membrane and a powerful drive based on neodymium magnets and is driven by a Class A/B amplifier. The developers have thus opted for exactly the same amplifier technology that is also used in the classic HiFi environment.

A new feature is the implementation of DynamEQ, which guarantees full preservation of the dynamic subtleties at very low volumes.

Thanks to the 7-band equaliser, the Cambridge Audio Melomania P100SE can also be adapted to the user’s musical taste and the perception of their ears via the Cambridge Audio Melomania Connect app. Six presets, which have been tailored to different music genres based on experience with many listeners, can be supplemented by customised curves. The user can freely adjust, save and name these, as emphasised by Cambridge Audio.

A gaming mode for reduced latency in video games and films can also be activated in the app, which is available free of charge from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

The app can also be used to customise the integrated Hyper ANC, i.e. the active noise cancellation of the headphones, to suit your own requirements. A very practical transparency mode is also available here, for example.

Signal transmission in Hi-res audio

Thanks to the support of the latest codecs, the signal transmission of these Bluetooth headphones is not only in “CD quality”, but also in Hi-res audio. Bluetooth 5.3 is used here with support for SBC, AAC, aptX and aptX Lossless and therefore signal transmission at up to 24 bit and 96 kHz.

Alternatively, the Cambridge Audio Melomania P100SE over-ear headphones can also be used via cable, either via USB-C on the digital level or via a cable with a 3,5 mm stereo mini-jack on the analogue level.

The headphones can of course be used for phone and video calls, with no fewer than six microphones ensuring optimum voice quality at all times.

Improved wearing comfort

According to Cambridge Audio, the headphone headband has been redesigned with additional padding and a defined spring in response to many customer requests, so that the Cambridge Audio Melomania P100SE can guarantee the best wearing comfort, consistent sound quality and effective noise cancellation even with unusual head shapes and when moving.

Up to 100 hours of music enjoyment

It should be emphasised that the Cambridge Audio Melomania P100SE over-ear headphones have a particularly long playing time. This is said to be up to 60 hours with active noise cancellation activated. If this is not activated, music can be enjoyed for up to 100 hours. Charging takes place via USB-C, with a quick-charging function allowing music to be enjoyed for up to two hours with and up to four hours without active noise cancelling after just five minutes connected to the mains.

Prices and availability

The new Cambridge Audio Melomania P100SE over-ear headphones are now available from specialist retailers in a choice of matt white or matt black, and also in blue. The manufacturer’s recommended retail price is € 279,-.

Getting to the point

Although Cambridge Audio refers to its latest over-ear headphones, the Cambridge Audio Melomania P100SE Over-ear Headphones, as a special edition, they are in fact the successor to the Cambridge Audio Melomania P100, which was launched just over a year ago. The new model has been further improved in terms of sound and wearing comfort and, like its predecessor, also boasts integrated active noise cancellation and a long battery life.
