Not only more than 50 years of experience in the audio sector, but also a passion for music is the basis of Cambridge Audio’s endeavours, which they like to describe as Great British Sound. This is exactly what the headphones offered by the English company with the Cambridge Audio Melomania Series are designed to deliver.

The latest addition to this product line is the Cambridge Audio Melomania M100, which Cambridge Audio is now presenting and promises to offer a state-of-the-art solution.

Great British Sound on the move

With the Cambridge Audio Melomania Series, Cambridge Audio has set out to offer the so-called Great British Sound, which is promised for all of the company’s HiFi systems, in the personal audio device sector and thus for solutions designed for use on the move.

It is therefore emphasised that the headphones are always developed by the same team at Cambridge Audio’s London headquarters that is also responsible for the development of the countless HiFi components.

10 mm drivers and amplifier in Class A/B

The most exciting thing is that Cambridge Audio uses an amplifier technology that is normally found in classic HiFi components, namely Class A/B, to power the 10 mm drivers used here with powerful neodymium magnets. This ensures that a particularly round, fine sound is achieved, as well as a very dynamic, detailed performance, as the manufacturer promises.

Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound

At the centre of the signal processing is the Qualcomm Snapdragon Platform, a highly integrated solution from the specialist Qualcomm Inc. that serves as the basis for a wide range of possibilities of the Cambridge Audio Melomania M100.

For example, Bluetooth 5.3 comes into play here for signal transmission, which enables support for the lossy SBC and AAC codecs as the lowest common denominator, as well as completely lossless codecs based on Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound with aptX Lossless, in which the manufacturer transmits the original bit for bit in 16 bit and 44,1 kHz.

The DSP available here also allows for exciting functions such as integrated active noise cancellation, whereby the Active Noise Cancellation, also known as ANC for short, is used here as a hybrid solution of feed-back and feed-forward technology and uses microphones located both outside and inside the ear canal for particularly accurate detection of ambient noise as the basis for the corresponding corrections.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon platform also supports a 7-band equaliser, which, like all other customisation functions, can be accessed via the Cambridge Audio Connect app. A special gaming mode can also be activated here to ensure a particularly low latency of just 80 ms. The touch control of the Cambridge Audio Melomania M100 can also be configured via the app, which is also worth mentioning.

It should also be noted that the new Cambridge Audio Melomania M100 features Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift, making it particularly quick and easy to connect to mobile devices.

High wearing comfort for hours on end

In order to make the Cambridge Audio Melomania M100 as comfortable as possible, the developers analysed data from thousands of pairs of ears in advance. The result should be optimally balanced and lightweight earphones with perfect wearing comfort, as promised by the manufacturer.

Three sizes of silicone and two sizes of memory foam tips are available and are designed to ensure that the earphones provide the right combination of long-lasting comfort and a snug, noise-insulating seal.

Up to ten hours of playtime

The new Cambridge Audio Melomania M100 should last up to ten hours on a single charge, including activated ANC. If this is deactivated, it can even last up to 16 hours. The transport case included in the scope of delivery should allow up to 52 hours away from the power socket and a quick-charging function ensures up to two hours of music including active noise cancellation after just ten minutes of charging.

Prices and availability

The new Cambridge Audio Melomania M100 is now available from specialist retailers and, it should be emphasised, comes in plastic-free packaging. The headphones themselves are also made from 50 per cent recycled plastic and the neodymium in the drivers is also a recycled raw material.

The recommended retail price of the Cambridge Audio Melomania M100 is listed at € 199,-.

Getting to the point

With the Cambridge Audio Melomania Series, Cambridge Audio has been cultivating a product line of personal audio devices for some time, which, like the company’s classic HiFi components, are designed to deliver Great British Sound. The latest Cambridge Audio Melomania M100 should of course do the same, while at the same time focussing on the latest technology and high wearing comfort, as well as a high degree of sustainability, both in the production of the true wireless in-ear headphones themselves and in their packaging.
