Wharfedale Super Denton - The latest addition to the Wharfedale Heritage Series
It is a very special loudspeaker system, according to the promise made by the English loudspeaker manufacturer Wharfedale at the presentation of the new Wharfedale Super Denton, because it is based on the Wharfedale Denton 3 from 1971. Retro touches with the latest technology should ensure that the crowning glory of a success story can be celebrated.
- The English loudspeaker manufacturer Wharfedale describes the new Wharfedale Super Denton as probably the best Wharfedale Denton of all time.
IAG Group Ltd. is once again expanding the renowned Wharfedale brand’s outstanding Wharfedale Heritage Series, a product line in which the English loudspeaker manufacturer is orientating itself on solutions from the heyday of HiFi, on true classics from its own history, although the design in particular plays with the retro touch, while the technology focuses on state-of-the-art solutions for contemporary listening pleasure.
The latest addition to the Wharfedale Heritage Series is the Wharfedale Super Denton, the third model in this product line after the Wharfedale Denton 80 and Wharfedale Denton 85.
Committed to tradition
The Wharfedale brand is steeped in tradition in the world of HiFi, as it was founded back in 1932 and has since presented many a milestone in the HiFi world, as the company is proud to say.
According to the company, this also includes the Wharfedale Denton, which was first presented in 1967, with the series being produced until the late 1970s.
The product line has all the characteristics that Wharfedale considers essential for the brand as a whole, namely high quality workmanship and the best possible sound at an affordable price. The Wharfedale Super Denton now presented was inspired by the model that was launched in 1971, the Wharfedale Denton 3.
Wharfedale describes the Wharfedale Denton 3 as a pioneering loudspeaker that inspired the entire HiFi world, as it was the most compact three-way loudspeaker system available on the market.
Wharfedale Super Denton – A classic reimagined
The new Wharfedale Super Denton is also characterised by its compactness, measuring no more than 360 mm in height, 246 mm in width and 275 mm in depth. Each speaker weighs 9,2 kg. This makes it one of the smallest three-way systems on the market today, as Wharfedale emphasises.
The Wharfedale Super Denton is said to be able to set the scene with a particularly elegant cabinet, radiating the charm of the 1970s, which is very popular today as part of the vintage trend.
But looks alone are not the decisive factor; the speaker’s housing alone should form the best basis for optimum sound, so that various selected materials are combined to minimise individual, audible resonance frequencies. Elaborate bracing, together with a specially selected insulating material, helps to prevent sound-damaging vibrations.
A 25 mm dome tweeter based on the design of the Wharfedale Dovedale from the Wharfedale Heritage Series, a 50 mm dome midrange driver with its origins in the Wharfedale EVO4 Series and a 165 mm woofer with Kevlar fabric cone are used here. A rear-firing bass reflex system is available for more sovereignty in the bass range.
The front of the Wharfedale Super Denton has been designed to ensure the best possible dispersion into the room, free from sound-damaging influences of the three speaker drivers from each other, which is why the tweeter and midrange drivers are each offset to one side of the cabinet. Each pair of the new Wharfedale Super Denton therefore consists of two mirrored loudspeaker systems, whereby you can decide whether to use the tweeters inside or outside depending on the individual room conditions.
According to the manufacturer, the crossover is also state of the art and ensures particularly clear, detailed sound thanks to air coils and polypropylene capacitors.
The technical data of the Wharfedale Super Denton
A glance at the data sheet reveals that the new Wharfedale Super Denton is designed as a three-way bass reflex system with 1 inch soft dome tweeter, 2 inch soft dome midrange driver and 6.5 inch black woven Kevlar cone and can reproduce a frequency range between 52 Hz and 20 kHz, with the crossover starting at 940 Hz and 4.6 kHz. The impedance is specified as 6 ohms and the sensitivity as 87 dB, while the manufacturer recommends an amplifier output of between 25 and 120 watts.
