Cambridge Audio is making good things even better with the announcement of the second generation of the Cambridge Audio Melomania 1 in-ear headphones, which will now be available in the form of the Cambridge Audio Melomania 1+ True Wireless In-ear Headphones.
Cambridge Audio Melomania 1+ True Wireless In-ear Headphones are the second generation of in-ear headphones from Cambridge Audio, which once again guarantee nothing less than Great British Sound. This is the next step in development, with numerous improvements being made to this new generation.
The company talks about having made good things even better, although they already offered extremely fine in-ear headphones with the Cambridge Audio Melomania 1 True Wireless In-ear presented in 2019, and the challenge for the developers to surpass this was certainly not an easy one, especially as they had just presented the Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch.
Cambridge Audio Melomania 1+ True Wireless In-ear Headphones – Great British Sound
Cambridge Audio stands for a passion for music and its unadulterated reproduction, which they like to describe as “Great British” sound. This applies equally to hi-fi systems for the home, but also to mobile solutions such as the new Cambridge Audio Melomania 1+ True Wireless In-ear Headphones. The development of the new in-ear headphones is therefore the responsibility of the same development team that is also responsible for the creation of the hi-fi components.
At the heart of the new Cambridge Audio Melomania 1+ True Wireless In-ear Headphones are dynamic drivers with a diaphragm diameter of 5.8 mm and a graphene coating. This is intended to achieve a balanced, dynamic sound image in the proven manner, whereby the limiting factor in the frequency response is not the driver itself, but first and foremost the signal transmission, so that this is also specified for the Cambridge Audio Melomania 1+ True Wireless In-ear Headphones with the 20 Hz to 20 kHz often found in this class.
Bluetooth 5.0 from the specialist Qualcomm is used for signal transmission, and the profiles A2DP, AVRCP, HSP and HFP, as well as the codecs SBC, AAC and aptX are supported. Smartphones with Google Android as well as Apple iOS thus ultimately achieve “CD quality” in signal playback; hi-res audio, however, is not offered in the absence of aptX HD or LDAC.
The developers rely on a tripe-core processor, specifically a dual-core 32-bit processor and a single-core 120 MHz Kalimba DSP audio subsystem based on the Qualcomm QCC3026. This provides various options that are accessible via the also new app, the Cambridge Audio Melimania app. First and foremost, this includes an equaliser for individual adjustment of the playback to one’s own preferences.
Class AB for fine sound
Here you can also activate the new High Performance Mode, which uses the proven Class AB amplifier technology that is also used in the integrated amplifiers of the Cambridge Audio CX Series. This should guarantee a much wider soundstage with less noise and distortion, and ultimately an even more intense sound experience. Of course, a low power mode is also available, which ensures particularly long music enjoyment.
Of course, the new Cambridge Audio Melomania 1+ True Wireless In-ear Headphones also have integrated microphones for making telephone calls. Here, they use MEMS (Micro-electromechanical Systems) models with cVc noise suppression for the best possible speech quality. Of course, these can also be used to employ voice assistants, be it Apple Siri or Google Assistant.
The control is carried out in the proven manner via buttons directly on the outside of the very tiny 27 x 15 mm earplugs, which weigh only 4.6 g each. This allows you to control the playback as well as the volume.
Weatherproof – IPX5 certified
The new Cambridge Audio Melomania 1+ True Wireless In-ear Headphones are IPX5 certified and therefore splash-proof.
By the way, this also applies to the transport box included in the scope of delivery, which also functions as a charging station and power bank. This charging box measures 59 x 50 x 22 mm and weighs 37 g.
Continuous runner – up to 36 hours
The transport box contains a rechargeable battery that allows an additional four charges for the earplugs. With a battery life of up to nine hours, this results in a playback time of up to 36 hours. By the way, charging is done via a USB-C interface. The matching cable is included, but not a corresponding power supply unit.
Let’s briefly return to the app, which is available for both Apple iOS and Google Android. It now offers the practical “Find my Earphones” function, serves to display the charging status, and also for any future firmware updates.
The new Cambridge Audio Melomania 1+ True Wireless In-ear Headphones are available in two versions, black and white. The recommended retail price is € 129.95, and they should be available in the Cambridge Audio webshop and on Amazon in the course of March 2021.
As an optional accessory, Cambridge Audio offers a matching silicone case in the colours orange, pink, blue, light green, light grey and red. This will cost € 10.
Getting to the point
The passion for music that characterises Cambridge Audio is also the essential characteristic of the new Cambridge Audio Melomania 1+ True Wireless In-ear Headphones. So essential, in fact, that the name was chosen accordingly, because Melomania stands for nothing other than “crazy about music”. Compared to the very successful first generation, crucial features have been improved again, such as the sound, but also the battery life.
