Cambridge Audio Edge M Monoblock Power Amplifier – powerful mono power amplifier

With the Cambridge Audio Edge Series, the English hi-fi manufacturer Cambridge Audio set an exclamation mark and presented a product range that was to be seen as an entry into the world of high-end hi-fi and promised nothing less than Great british sound. Now this product line is being extended with a mono block in the form of the new Cambridge Audio Edge M.

In 2018 the English company Cambridge Audio celebrated its 50th birthday. And, as befits such an occasion, they presented a range of products that would represent everything Cambridge Audio stands for, the manufacturer promised. The new product line was christened Cambridge Audio Edge Series, and the motto was clearly Great british sound, as this is what distinguishes all Cambridge Audio products, the English said.

The Cambridge Audio Edge Series was developed without compromise, giving the engineers complete freedom. The result was the Cambridge Audio Edge A Integrated Amplifier, Cambridge Audio Edge NQ Network Preamplifier and Cambridge Audio Edge W Power Amplifier. Now another very important solution is to be added, which many audiophile music lovers have probably missed until now, namely a particularly powerful amplifier in the form of a mono block, and this is exactly what is available with the new Cambridge Audio Edge M Monoblock Power Amplifier.

Pure power in a noble guise, this is how Cambridge Audio describes the new Cambridge Audio Edge M mono amplifier, which is also said to be distinguished by the fact that the number of components in the signal path has been reduced to a minimum. This is intended to offer the finest sound in innovative Class XA and with a balanced construction, whereby the chassis is of course in no way inferior to the electronics in terms of the highest demands. All in all, the new Cambridge Audio Edge M is a solution at reference level, representing a worthy flagship amplifier of the Cambridge Audio Edge Series.

Of course, the new Cambridge Audio Edge M is essentially based on the design of the well-known Cambridge Audio Edge W Power Amplifier, designing a mono block, but it requires more than simply omitting a channel strip, according to the English hi-fi forge. Rather, they have once again placed great emphasis on optimising the circuit design, especially in view of the fact that the new Cambridge Audio Edge M is a mono amplifier with a particularly high power reserve.

As mentioned above, the new Cambridge Audio Edge M is fully balanced and once again the innovative Class XA amplification of Cambridge Audio is relied upon. This is intended to provide a sound quality similar to Class A, but the circuitry is much more efficient and therefore produces significantly less heat. In addition, transition distortions are shifted out of the audible range, so that a particularly clean reproduction can be achieved. After all, 200 watts are available in this new mono block, and this is on speaker systems with an impedance of 8 ohms.

A potent power supply unit, which relies on double toroidal core transformers arranged in opposite directions, is primarily responsible for these power reserves. According to the manufacturer, this special arrangement should eliminate electromagnetic interference.

We have already mentioned this too: the developers of the new Cambridge Audio Edge M have paid meticulous attention to using not only the finest components, but also as few as possible. The signal path should thus be reduced to a minimum to guarantee the promised fine sound. To put it a little more succinctly: nothing should stand between the listener and the music and music should be presented in the way the artists wanted it to be. Pure, powerful and without disturbing interferences.

Of course, the new Cambridge Audio Edge M is also entirely in the design language of the entire Cambridge Audio Edge Series, so the focus is on a modern, almost purist industrial design.

The almost solid aluminium housing is made of aluminium and has curved lines at the edges. The top plate is designed to seem to float above the case, the proverbial icing on the cake, giving the new Cambridge Audio Edge M a particularly elegant touch.

It goes without saying that the new mono block in a double pack is designed to be the ideal playing partner for the Cambridge Audio Edge NQ Network Preamplifier. Not only does it offer flexible connections for a wide range of sources, it is also equipped with the latest generation of the Cambridge Audio StreamMagic streaming platform, making it ideally suited for high-end playback of a wide variety of content. In combination with two mono blocks, the result is not only a very flexible but also a powerful HiFi chain that can meet even the highest demands.

The new Cambridge Audio Edge M Monoblock Power Amplifier will be available in specialist shops from December. The recommended retail price is stated by the manufacturer as € 4.364,-.
