The history of the Denon brand dates back to 1910, when the company Nippon Chikuonki Shoukai was founded, with a focus on the distribution of gramophones in those years. It was not until the late 1930s, after the takeover of Japan Denki Onkyo, that the until final name Denon was established, and in these years Japan’s first professional recording equipment for radio stations was presented. At the beginning of the 1960s, the Japanese state broadcasting corporation NHK commissioned Denon to develop a pick-up system that could easily withstand the rigours of studio work and was designed to reproduce records for broadband UWK stereo broadcasting. 1964 saw the birth of the Denon DL-103, probably one of the most legendary pick-up systems of all time, which has been produced in only slightly modified form at Denon’s main factory Shirakawa Audio Works in Japan since then.
