Steinway & Sons BWS-110 In-wall Woofer – Extra flat subwoofer

The new Steinway & Sons BWS-110 In-wall Woofer has been specially designed for installations where a subwoofer should not be visible, but where you do not want to do without its powerful, accurate performance in the lowest frequency range.

Story Highlights
  • With the new Steinway & Sons BWS-110 in-wall woofer, SL Audio A/S is now expanding its range in the custom installation segment.

The company SL Audio A/S now presents the new Steinway & Sons BWS-110 as a new solution for the Steinway Lyngdorf brand, which the Danish specialist describes as a particularly powerful woofer, a subwoofer that has been specially developed for the broad product portfolio in the custom installation sector and which is also characterised by its particularly flat design.

The new Steinway & Sons BWS-110 in-wall woofer thus allows the realisation of solutions with superior reproduction down to the lowest frequency ranges, even if only very thin walls with a 10 cm cavity construction are available for the installation.

Wide selection of subwoofers

It is astonishing that SL Audio A/S can offer a wide range of solutions for custom installations under the Steinway Lyngdorf brand, with a clear focus on users who want exclusive solutions for special installations. In the subwoofer sector alone, the Steinway & Sons brand can boast a very wide range, with the new Steinway & Sons BWS-110 In-wall Woofer being the sixth model.

Precise in performance, powerful in appearance

The abbreviation BWS in the name of the subwoofer stands for Boundary Woofer Shallow, whereby a closed construction is used here, in which the very flat housing of the passive subwoofer is made of extremely solid MDF, as the manufacturer states.

The Steinway & Sons BWS-110 features a patented, flat woofer design with high excursion, specially developed for Steinway Lyngdorf, which is based on an innovative voice coil and cone geometry and suspension that should enable the highest excursion in the smallest space, as the Danes state on record. According to SL Audio A/S, a four-layer voice coil, an ultra-stable double aluminium cone, a very powerful neodymium magnet and an extremely rigid cast aluminium basket ensure an impressive bass performance that does full justice to the well-known sound quality of Steinway & Sons loudspeakers.

This ensures that the new Steinway & Sons BWS-110 In-wall Woofer can be easily used with all other solutions from the brand, not only those products for wall or ceiling installation, but also the classic systems for use in HiFi and home cinema.

Intelligent system use for the best performance

From SL Audio A/S’ point of view, it is therefore very important to point out that the new Steinway & Sons BWS-110 In-wall Woofer must of course be seen as another product in the company’s solution-orientated overall concept, which is often referred to as an Integrated System Approach, which in fact represents the company’s DNA.

This Integrated System Approach ensures that all parts of the system – from the loudspeakers and woofers to the powerful digital amplifiers and the stereo or surround processors – work together perfectly and are optimally harmonised.

The RoomPerfect Technology integrated into Steinway Lyngdorf products, for example, acoustically calibrates the performance of the speakers and woofers to the room acoustics, while the unique bass management achieves the best possible sound integration between the selected Steinway & Sons speakers and the Steinway & Sons BWS-110 woofers. The Danes promise that this guarantees the best sound experience for every customer, in every room and with every speaker arrangement.

Key technical data

The new Steinway & Sons BWS-110 in-wall woofer is a passive subwoofer for in-wall installation, measuring 1.000 mm in length, 350 mm in width and just 88 mm in depth and weighing in at 16 kg with its MDF housing.

It features a closed construction based on a 10-inch dual aluminium cone with a 4-layer voice coil and a powerful neodymium magnet in the drive unit.

This allows a frequency range of 30 to 200 Hz to be reproduced, with an impedance of 4 ohms, a sensitivity of 82 dB and a recommended output of 400 W. The company recommends a Steinway & Sons A1 or Steinway & Sons A2 as a playing partner, whereby of course only one channel is required.

Prices and availability

The new Steinway & Sons BWS-110 In-wall Woofer should be available as early as October 2024 in a matt black finish. Of course, the front grille of the subwoofer can be painted as desired. As this is a product that is understood to be part of a system, the manufacturer is not specifying any unit prices.

Getting to the point

With the new Steinway & Sons BWS-110 In-wall Woofer, SL Audio A/S is introducing another passive subwoofer that is designed to be the ideal partner for exclusive installations in the HiFi and home cinema segment based on solutions from the Steinway Lyngdorf brand. The special feature here is that it is a subwoofer that can even be installed in very thin walls and still deliver an impressive performance.
