- Craft meets technology, this is how Sonus Faber S.p.a. once again describes the latest generation of the Sonus Faber Homage Collection.
Sonus Faber Homage Collection, Sonus Faber S.p.a. sees this product line as a true icon in the loudspeaker segment. According to the company, this loudspeaker series is characterised by the fact that all the features for which the Italian loudspeaker manufacturer is famous and also appreciated by many have been combined in an outstanding way to create a true work of art. Craftsmanship and technology are said to form a perfect unity here, also in the now presented latest generation of the Sonus Faber Homage Collection.
A tribute to the masters of music history
It is well known that Sonus Faber S.p.a. has always striven to create a direct relationship between its products and music. This is a clear indication that the accurate reproduction of music has always been the top priority of the company’s developers. The product names that recall the greats of musical instrument making are legendary.
Of course, the Sonus Faber Homage Collection is no different, but the company goes one step further and understands this loudspeaker series as a homage to the masters of music history, as Sonus Faber S.p.a. states.
Groundbreaking technology brings the feeling of live music into every listening room, whereby the solutions of the Sonus Faber Homage Collection combine modern artistry with groundbreaking innovation to raise the listening experience to a new level, according to Sonus Faber S.p.a.’s superlative description.
Sonus Faber Amati, Sonus Faber Serafino, Sonus Faber Guarneri and Sonus Faber Vox
Two floorstanding speaker systems – Sonus Faber Amati and Sonus Faber Serafino – and the Sonus Faber Guarneri bookshelf speaker system are to launch the latest generation of the Sonus Faber Homage Collection.
Andrea Amati, Santo Serafino and Giuseppe Guarneri, here they are again, the great names of 16th, 17th and 18th century instrument making, to whom Sonus Faber S.p.a. once again refers directly.
The next step will be to offer a matching centre speaker, the Sonus Faber Vox, in order to equip the product line not only for stereo, but also for home cinema.
“The most difficult but also most exciting moment for a designer is when he has to improve a timeless icon. How do you renew a product whose image is immune to the passage of time and changing fashion trends? The only way is to take a step back, reflect and understand why this product was originally created. This is the challenge I set myself together with my team at Sonus faber. The third generation of Homage was the first product I worked on, and the latest launch we are introducing now is the fifth – the most developed, the most mature, but just as authentic and special. A story that repeats itself, that crosses the path of evolution at different stages of my own life, that always fascinates me and makes me proud to be a part of it.”
Livio Cucuzza, Head of Design Sonus Faber S.p.a.
Latest technology
The latest generation of the Sonus Faber Homage Collection features cutting-edge technology. Each upgrade, according to the Italian loudspeaker specialist, enhances the Sonus Faber Homage Collection’s sonic performance without compromising musical detail. The result is described as an impressive, three-dimensional sound designed to recreate the feeling of a live performance in any room.
Discreetly adapted design line
Outstanding design is a cornerstone of the Sonus Faber S.p.a. speaker series. The latest generation combines old craftsmanship with modern elegance. The characteristic, lute-shaped cabinets of the speaker systems are now available in three, according to the manufacturer, very attractive finishes: graphite, wenge and red.
Nine layers of natural wood are combined according to the grain and finished with nine layers of lacquer. Afterwards, each loudspeaker is sanded and brushed by hand in several steps so that it is a real feast for the eyes, according to the manufacturer’s promise.
Sonus Faber D.A.D. Tweeter
According to the developers, the out-of-phase behaviour of a tweeter in the upper range of a standard construction is responsible for the early drop of high frequencies. The specially developed Sonus Faber D.A.D. Tweeter is designed to counteract this problem by damping the apex of the silk dome tweeter and thus preventing out-of-phase behaviour.
Developed through computer simulations, the Phase Plug is another innovation that optimises the driver’s air movement to reduce turbulence while directing sound waves so that their propagation is amplified in a more uniform wave pattern at listening distance. The result is said to be a smoother frequency response with a higher degree of clarity both on and off axis.
New midrange and bass drivers
Now in its fifth generation, the Sonus Faber Homage Collection features a new midrange driver and woofer. Powerful neodynium magnets drive the voice coil with control and precision in the midrange. The new woofer uses ultra-light CCAW voice coils surrounded by neodymium magnets for high speed and improved performance and heat dissipation. The spider and surround have been redesigned using computer simulations based on the finite element method. The result is said to be a detailed and consistent sound.
Sonus Faber Stealth Ultraflex
The bass reflex system of the speakers, the Sonus Faber Stealth Ultraflex, was already a special feature. This has now been improved even further in terms of the aerodynamic flow of the air emitted by the reflex channels. It remains an integral part of the system, not only in terms of sound, but also in terms of cabinet construction and design. The extruded aluminium parts add structural rigidity to the cabinet and are now available in a beautiful dark grey brushed aluminium finish.
Phase Coherent Crossover
The phase-coherent crossover is designed to deliver immersive, three-dimensional sound throughout the room. The high-end hand-soldered special capacitors and coils provide sonic clarity while handling high power levels and lowering noise floor.
Sonus Faber InTono Technology
The Sonus Faber Amati, Sonus Faber Serafino and Sonus Faber Vox models incorporate an important new innovation for the collection called Sonus Faber InTono Technology. Thanks to the special structure of the cabinet, which reduces the sound pressure in a certain frequency range, these new speakers always reproduce colouration-free mid frequencies.
G5 solid steel spikes
The floorstanding speaker systems are mechanically decoupled from the floor by the patented Sonus Faber Z.V.T. system. Z.V.T. stands for Zero Vibration Transmission and is said to be an optimised vibration damping system with alternating metal-elastomer-metal surfaces overlapping inside the base plate, legs and foot spikes. According to Sonus Faber S.p.a., this system significantly reduces acoustic feedback and the transmission of unwanted vibrations into the listening room.
Prices and availability
The new models of the Sonus Faber Homage Collection of the fifth generation should be available in specialist shops in the near future. The recommended retail price for the Sonus Faber Amati 5G is € 35.000,-. The Sonus Faber Serafino 5G will cost € 25.000,- and the Sonus Faber Guarneri 5G € 18.500,-. The Sonus Faber Vox 5G has a recommended retail price of € 16.500,-.
Getting to the point
The Sonus Faber Homage Collection, now in its fifth generation, is clearly one of the most important product lines of the Italian loudspeaker manufacturer Sonus Faber S.p.a.. Once again, the developers have taken on all essential areas and made improvements and optimisations, whereby the greatest challenge has been to introduce striking technical innovations without, however, changing the character of the loudspeaker series.
