Shokz OpenFit Air – New open-ear headphones

Shokz Holding Limited is convinced that the new Shokz OpenFit Air is the best true wireless headphones with the so-called open-ear concept on the market to date, as announced at the presentation of this new solution.

Story Highlights
  • Shokz Holding Limited promises a unique listening experience with the highest possible level of comfort for the new Shokz OpenFit Air.

Shokz Holding Limited is not at all modest when it announces its latest headphone model, the Shokz OpenFit Air. These are so-called open-ear headphones, i.e. a solution that is designed as true wireless headphones but does not have to be inserted into the ear canal like in-ear headphones, but rather rests gently on the user’s ears in front of the ear canal.

According to Shokz Holding Limited, the new Shokz OpenFit Air are nothing less than the best headphones of their kind and promise a unique listening experience with the highest possible level of comfort.

Open-ear headphones based on Shokz DirectPitch Technology

Shokz Holding Limited bases its open-ear headphones, including the new Shokz OpenFit Air, on what is known as Shokz DirectPitch Technology. The 18 x 11 mm driver specially developed for these headphones is designed to deliver a powerful, precise sound, with the aforementioned Shokz DirectPitch Technology based on DSP-based signal processing precisely focussing the sound so that it radiates optimally into the user’s ear canal.

Shokz OpenBass Air

This in itself should guarantee a balanced sound; the manufacturer speaks of powerful highs, clear mids and even powerful bass, but Shokz OpenBass Air uses an algorithm to ensure an even more pronounced performance in the lowest frequency range.

If desired, the performance can be customised to suit your own preferences using the Shokz app, which the manufacturer offers for Apple iOS and Google Android.

An all-rounder for a wide range of tasks

As already mentioned, the special feature of open-ear headphones such as the new Shokz OpenFit Air is that you don’t have to put anything in your ear, but nothing completely encloses your ears, as would be the case with over-ear headphones.

In fact, such headphones are the best solution if you don’t want to be shielded from your surroundings, and this can prove to be a great advantage in a wide variety of situations.

The Shokz OpenFit Air can be used in the office, for example, or with the family – you can always be part of your surroundings. Even when travelling, but especially on the daily commute to work, it is ideal if you can always be aware of your surroundings. Of course, this is especially true when doing sport, particularly when jogging in traffic.

In keeping with this, the Shokz OpenFit Air is designed to be very comfortable to wear for hours on end, as the manufacturer promises. The earphones are bent inwards at a 25.5° angle so that they distribute the weight instead of placing the entire load on the ear. To avoid irritation to the ear, the end of the headphones is bevelled at an 18° angle, which should make them even more comfortable to wear, and they are also very robust and certified to IP 54.

Best possible voice quality

Naturally, the new Shokz OpenFit Air has an integrated microphone so that phone calls and video calls can be made. There are four of them in combination with AI-based active noise cancellation to ensure the best possible voice quality. Up to 96.5 per cent of background noise should be filtered out.

Signal transmission via Bluetooth 5.2

The developers rely on Bluetooth 5.2 for signal transmission, although only the SBC and AAC codecs are supported. The Shokz OpenFit also supports the Bluetooth profiles A2DP, AVRCP, HSP and HFP.

Long battery life

According to the manufacturer, these Bluetooth headphones offer up to six hours of battery life, whereby the matching transport case is used for charging, providing a total of up to 28 hours. A quick-charging function means that just ten minutes are enough to be able to listen to music for another two hours. Incidentally, charging is via USB-C.

Prices and availability

The new Shokz OpenFit Air is available immediately at a recommended retail price of € 139,-, as stated by the manufacturer. Customers can choose between black, white and pink.

Getting to the point

Shokz Holding Limited is convinced that the new Shokz OpenFit Air is a very special pair of so-called open-ear headphones. Once again, the company is catering for a new product group in the headphone sector that is generating a great deal of interest among many consumers, as it offers a real alternative to in-ear headphones and earbuds, which are often perceived as much more comfortable and yet still offer all the advantages of true wireless Bluetooth headphones.
