For a good year now, the Chinese company Shanling has been offering the M6 Portable Hi-res Music Player, the company’s first DAP based on Google Android. Now they are taking it one step further and presenting the new Shanling M6 Pro Android Hi-res Music Player.
Shanling is a proven specialist for solutions in the field of personal audio devices such as headphones and portable audio players, often referred to as Digital Audio Players, or DAP for short. The company has a broad product range, which is now being expanded once again in the DAPs sector with the new Shanling M6 Pro Android Hi-res Music Player.
Already last year Shanling presented the Shanling M6 Android Hi-res Music Player, which was the first portable audio player of the company based on Google Android. Of course this also applies to the new Shanling M6 Pro Android Hi-res Music Player, which is supposed to be superior to its little brother in essential areas and is therefore considered an upgrade. Not surprisingly, the Shanling M6 Pro Android Hi-res Music Player is the new flagship in the Shanling product range.
The heart of the new Shanling M6 Pro Android Hi-res Music Player is a powerful processor, specifically a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC with eight cores, which is supported by 4 GByte RAM and 32 GByte ROM.
A microSD card slot is available for audio data, which currently supports storage media with a capacity of up to 512 GByte.
The operating concept of the new Shanling M6 Pro Android Hi-res Music Player naturally relies primarily on a touchscreen display, with a 4.7-inch colour display with a resolution of 720p. In addition, there are buttons on the sides for essential functions, so that simple operation, for example for playback control and volume control, can be performed “blind”.
Signal processing relies on a dual DAC configuration based on AKM AK4497EQ DACs, so signals can be processed in Linear PCM at up to 32 bits and 768 kHz, and native DSD at up to DSD256. This is followed by a circuit configuration with four low pass filters based on Texas Instruments OPA1622 and an output stage equipped with Texas Instruments ADA4610-2 and Texas Instruments BUF634. The output stage is completely balanced and is designed to guarantee particularly accurate signal processing with high power of 600 mW at 32 ohms. For connecting headphones, the new Shanling M6 Pro Android Hi-res Music Player offers a classic 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack connector, but also a 2.5 mm stereo mini-jack connector and a 4.4 mm connector. Thus, the complete range of connectors currently available for headphones in the mobile segment is directly covered, so you don’t have to rely on separate cables or even adapters. By the way, the output stage has three modes, Low Gain, High Gain and Ultra High Gain, so that it can be optimally adapted to different headphone models.
Dual-band WiFi is available for communication with the environment, as is Bluetooth 4.2 with support for SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, HWA and LDAC. Of course, a USB interface should not be missing either, whereby it is USB-C, which of course also serves to charge the battery.
This battery is supposed to offer a playing time of up to 13 hours with 4.000 mAh, if one sets on a DAC as well as Single Ended in the output stage. Nine hours are available if you rely on Dual DAC mode and Single Ended in the output stage, and still eight hours of runtime should be offered with full quality with Dual DAC and Balanced Mode. As the battery has QC3.0 Quick Charging, the time out at the power outlet should be quite short.
Google Android 7.1 is used as the operating system, whereby the manufacturer explicitly points out that access to the Google Android Store is of course possible, so that various apps can be installed, especially those from various streaming service providers.
The Shanling M6 Pro Android Hi-res Music Player presents itself in a chic metal case, which is kept in silver. This is intended to make it look timelessly elegant and thus fully live up to its position as the new flagship from Shanling.
The new Shanling M6 Pro Android Hi-res Music Player is now also available in this country. This solution is offered at a recommended retail price of € 759,-.
