The new PSB Speakers CSIR SUB In-Room Subwoofer, designed as a passive solution and suitable for a wide range of applications, is especially designed for use in the Custom Installation segment. Thanks to its particularly slim design, for example, this solution offers three installation options: on the wall using a mounting device, standing upright or lying flat on the floor.
Subwoofers are, as physics dictates, comparatively large creatures that are difficult to hide as discreetly as possible. They are not really “pretty”, even if proven experts and loudspeaker specialists do their best. A subwoofer is after all a quite remarkable loudspeaker, but for many applications it is indispensable, for even more so a worthwhile investment, in order to guarantee a sovereign reproduction down to the lowest frequency ranges.
Anyone who owns a designated listening room or even their own home cinema will hardly be affected by this problem, but anyone who wants to implement a stereo or even surround solution in the living room as unobtrusively as possible will have to think about how to integrate a subwoofer into the living room ambience in such a way that it is hardly noticeable, or at best not at all.
Many a manufacturer is dedicated to this task, especially those loudspeaker specialists who offer solutions in the field of custom installation. This includes PSB Speakers, part of the Lenbrook Group.
It’s not a subwoofer like any other, which the Canadian loudspeaker manufacturer PSB Speakers first showed as a prototype at CEDIA 2019 with the PSB Speakers CSIR SUB In-Room Subwoofer. The official presentation took place at the ISE 2020 in Amsterdam, and the subwoofer will be available soon. It is a passive solution specifically designed for custom installation solutions. It is intended to be characterised by its particularly slim design, which offers a range of different application possibilities. Possible applications that cannot be realised with conventional solutions.
The new PSB Speakers CSIR SUB In-Room Subwoofer, for example, measures 400 mm in width, which is quite “standard in the class”. The height of 432 mm is nothing unusual, but the depth of only 133 mm is. It can therefore be said that this is a really very, very flat solution, which, it should be mentioned in passing, weighs about 12 kg.
The PSB Speakers CSIR SUB In-Room Subwoofer is of course made of MDF, whereby the actual cabinet, when used horizontally, stands freely on a base that guarantees its secure footing. However, this plinth can be removed, as free placement in the room is only one option. In addition, the new PSB Speakers CSIR SUB In-Room Subwoofer can also be mounted directly on the wall; the corresponding rails are mounted directly on the rear of the cabinet. However, these rails can also function as feet, and this is the case if you decide on the third possible installation variant, namely horizontal placement, for example underneath furniture.
As already mentioned, the PSB Speakers CSIR SUB In-Room Subwoofer is a purely passive solution, using a 10 inch woofer. This features a PMI Foam Sandwich cone reinforced with glass fibre, a solid die-cast aluminium cabinet and a balanced drive motor structure. The impedance is specified at 8 ohms, the efficiency at 88 dB. The PSB Speakers CSIR SUB In-Room Subwoofer is thus designed for amplifiers with a power output between 40 and 200 watts, whereby the manufacturer itself recommends the PSB Speakers CS 500W Digital Subwoofer Amplifier. This is a 19-inch amplifier module that, how could it be otherwise, delivers a whopping 500 watts from Class D and features DSP-based signal processing for optimum adjustment including room calibration. The PSB Speakers CS 500W can drive two passive subwoofers and, of course, has all the relevant interfaces for integration into custom installation systems.
Back to the PSB Speakers CSIR SUB In-Room Subwoofer, which according to the manufacturer can reproduce a frequency range between 25 and 150 Hz. This solution is therefore ideally suited to the newly introduced wall-mounted speaker systems of the PSB Speakers PWM series, specifically the models PSB Speakers PWM 1, PSB Speakers PWM 2 and PSB Speakers PWM 3.
“Together with our other CS-Subs, the new PSB CSIR SUB and its dedicated amplifier offers the professional custom installation expert numerous design and application options for solid low-frequency performance.”Joe de Jesus, Lenbrook’s product manager for custom installations
Like the models in the PWM Series, the new PSB Speakers CSIR SUB in-room subwoofer is available in Satin Black and Satin White.
As described, the scope of delivery includes all utensils for wall mounting, for free placement in the room, as well as for horizontal placement on the floor.
