Admittedly, loudspeaker systems are probably not the first product group that comes to mind when you think of Pro-Ject Audio Systems, as the company is primarily known as a specialist for record players and fine, compact HiFi electronic components in the so-called Pro-Ject Box Design Series. But it is precisely for the Pro-Ject Box Design Series that Pro-Ject Audio Systems has been offering its own line of speaker systems for years, the Pro-Ject Speaker Box Series, and it can certainly offer some exciting solutions.
The speaker systems in the Pro-Ject Speaker Box Series are proving to be solutions with an outstanding price-performance ratio. This applies above all to the Pro-Ject Speaker Box 5, which established the entire product line a good 15 years ago and which is now being followed by its successor, the new Pro-Ject Speaker Box 5 E.
Pro-Ject Speaker Box 5 – a true classic
Pro-Ject Audio Systems itself describes the Pro-Ject Speaker Box 5 as a true classic, which, as already mentioned, has been in production for over 15 years and is now to receive a worthy successor in the form of the new Pro-Ject Speaker Box 5 E.
As before, the new version is a compact Rega loudspeaker system that is designed to offer excellent value for money and is aimed at a broad customer base as an all-rounder.
Two-way bass reflex system
The new Pro-Ject Speaker Box 5 E is designed in the proven manner as a two-way bass reflex system and, in addition to a 1-inch silk dome tweeter, features a 5-inch low-midrange driver with a fibre flask membrane and a powerful magnet in the drive.
According to the manufacturer, the tweeter is characterised by a transparent, detailed and gentle performance, and the mid-bass driver delivers a rich, accentuated bass sound thanks to its high-strength and rigid membrane.
A bass reflex system, which in this case is routed out the back, is of course particularly helpful for a solid performance in the bass range, especially for bookshelf speakers.
According to the manufacturer, a great deal of attention has been paid to the crossover, which is designed as a sophisticated crossover network with high-quality components. The connections on the back are gold-plated banana connectors.
