- A fine, compact HiFi system based around the Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 turntable is now available with the new Pro-Ject Colourful Audio System 2.
Pro-Ject Audio Systems has always endeavoured to provide people with high-quality music playback at attractive prices. This is the company’s DNA, the philosophy with which company founder Heinz Lichtenegger established Pro-Ject Audio Systems many years ago. The company continues to offer solutions consisting of optimally matched components, such as the Pro-Ject Colourful Audio System, which is described as a true analogue All-in-One HiFi system.
The latest generation of this system is called Pro-Ject Colourful Audio System 2 and is based on the latest record player in the Pro-Ject Audio Systems Debut Series, the Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 turntable. Together with a Pro-Ject MaiA S3 and a pair of Pro-Ject Speaker Box 5 S2, this is a fine HiFi system.
A fine HiFi system for real stereo
Heinz Lichtenegger is known to be an advocate of classic HiFi, and the founder of Pro-Ject Audio Systems never tires of emphasising that an appealing music reproduction with a correspondingly realistic sound stage requires a few basic things, namely a HiFi chain that can actually reproduce stereo.
While the typical All-in-One systems, such as those found in streaming, ultimately only offer mono, Pro-Ject Audio Systems’ own interpretation of an All-in-One system is therefore deliberately based on an amplifier plus a pair of speaker systems that, when set up correctly, can offer the finest sound with a realistic presentation of the sound stage.
Pro-Ject MaiA S3
The Pro-Ject MaiA S3 is a very compact, yet extremely flexible stereo integrated amplifier that is equipped for digital sources as well as analogue sources and also has Bluetooth. Everything from external streaming clients to TV sets and smartphones can be integrated here, and thanks to the integrated phono preamplifier, this solution is of course also ideally equipped to operate the Pro-Ject Colourful Audio System 2 drive without additional components.
This tiny device delivers two 40-watt outputs to speaker systems with an impedance of 4 ohms. To connect the speakers, there are small but nevertheless solid screw terminals on the back, which not only provide a reliable connection for bare cable ends, but also accept ready-made cables with bananas.
Pro-Ject Speaker Box 5 S2
According to Pro-Ject Audio Systems, the Pro-Ject Speaker Box 5 S2 is an audiophile speaker system that is extremely compact and can therefore be easily integrated into any living environment, especially as this speaker, designed as a two-way bass reflex system, can also be mounted on the wall using an optional mounting device. This solution measures 160 x 271 x 215 mm and weighs 4,9 kg.
Equipped with a 25 mm silk dome tweeter and a 130 mm fibreglass woofer, the speaker system has a nominal impedance of 8 ohms and an efficiency of 88 dB, which means it is designed for amplifiers with an output of between 10 and 150 watts and can reproduce a frequency range between 55 Hz and 20 kHz.
Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 Turntable
The star of the Pro-Ject Colourful Audio System 2 is, of course, the Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 turntable, as it presents itself as an extremely fine turntable that is also equipped with everything that makes it ready to play straight out of the box.
The Pro-Ject Debut EVO 2 turntable has a high-quality 8.6-inch carbon tonearm with a solid aluminium bearing construction that guarantees precise, stable tracking and therefore optimum record tracking. Carbon as a material gives the tonearm a high degree of rigidity combined with a very low weight and the one-piece design from the arm to the headshell prevents unwanted resonances and provides a solid physical connection to the cartridge. At the other end there is a TPE-damped counterweight. Incidentally, the tonearm is fitted ex works with a Pro-Ject Pick it MM EVO cartridge.
The record player uses a belt drive and an electronically regulated speed control so that you can choose between 33 1/3 and 45 revolutions per minute at the touch of a button.
The turntable has a heavy, damped die-cast aluminium platter, is supplied with a matching felt mat as a support and sits on height-adjustable metal feet. A matching dust cover is included in the scope of delivery.
Important accessories included
The scope of delivery also includes all other utensils required to operate the Pro-Ject Colourful Audio System 2, such as a Pro-Ject Connect it Phono RCA for connecting the record player and Pro-Ject Connect it LS 3 speaker cables. These have a length of twice three metres and are made using solid-core technology from high-purity, oxygen-free copper (HP-OFC) and fitted with gold-plated banana plugs.
The set also includes special rubber feet for optimum decoupling in the form of the Pro-Ject Damp it.
Prices and availability
The Pro-Ject Colourful Audio System 2 is available in different design variants. While the Pro-Ject MaiA S3 stereo integrated amplifier is always black, the speakers and the drive unit are available in Satin White, Satin Golden Yellow, Satin Steel Blue, Satin Black, Satin Fir Green and Satin Wine Red. A walnut finish is also available as an alternative. The recommended retail price is listed at € 1.999,-.
