Piega Ace Center Wireless – moved into the centre of attention
Piega Ace 30 Wireless and Piega Ace 50 Wireless, a bookshelf and a floorstanding speaker system, this is how the Piega Ace Wireless Series, a product range of particularly elegant, slim wireless speakers, has presented itself so far. Now Piega SA is adding another essential solution with the new Piega Ace Center Wireless.
According to the Swiss company Piega SA, the Piega Ace Center Wireless expands the range of models available in the Piega Ace Wireless Series. This means that it is now possible to use the outstanding wireless speakers of this product line not only for stereo, but also for surround and thus in home cinema. The new Piega Ace Center Wireless is designed to complement the Piega Ace 30 Wireless and Piega Ace 50 Wireless models not only visually but also in terms of sound.
The loudspeaker specialist from Horgen on Lake Zurich promises that a multi-channel surround system up to 7.1-channel solutions can now be realised around the Piega Ace Center Wireless.
Piega Ace Wireless Series
No compromises, whether for HiFi or Home Cinema, this is what Piega SA promises for the new Piega Ace Wireless Series, which, as already described, previously consisted of the two models Piega Ace 30 Wireless and Piega Ace 50 Wireless.
While the Piega Ace 30 Wireless is a compact bookshelf speaker system, the Piega Ace 50 Wireless is a slim floorstanding speaker system.
The special feature of the Piega Ace Wireless Series is that they are active loudspeaker systems that can be controlled solely by radio, thus allowing a complete stereo or even surround configuration without cables.
WiSA as the technical basis
Piega SA decided to use the industry standard WiSA Technology as the technological basis for this product series. WiSA Technology is a wireless technology that was explicitly developed for signal transmission in the environment of active loudspeaker systems and guarantees only minimal latency for lip-synchronous playback of film sound, even with content in hi-res audio.
Numerous interfaces
In principle, the Piega Ace Wireless Series also offers numerous interfaces for integrating a wide variety of sources. In addition to analogue and digital audio inputs, HDMI is available first and foremost, whereby HDMI CEC for central control is supported in addition to an eARC (enhanced Audio Return Channel).
However, only analogue interfaces are available for the Piega Ace Center Wireless, as it is of course not used on its own, but always in conjunction with other systems in the range.
Even a pair of Piega Ace Wireless speakers consists of one Tx and one Rx speaker. The Tx speaker (transmitter) distributes the music in high definition quality and wirelessly to one or more Rx speakers (receiver). A wireless multi-channel system, on the other hand, consists only of Rx speakers, because in this application the transmitting function is taken over by a WiSA-capable TV or a WiSA hub, for example.
The Piega Ace Center Wireless is thus available solely as an Rx version and thus essentially requires no interfaces, as it receives signals solely via a transmitter via radio based on WiSA.
Integrated streaming client
Of course, it should be mentioned that the speakers of the Piega Ace Wireless Series are particularly flexible when it comes to streaming, because essentially everything that is currently important is supported. This begins with UPnP as a dlna-certified streaming client, continues with Google Chromecast and Spotify Connect and ends with certification as Roon Ready.
Those who want to use smartphones and tablets as a source can do so via the integrated Bluetooth 4.2 module, without having to integrate these mobile devices into the network beforehand.
Typical Piega drivers
How could it be otherwise, the models of the Piega Ace Wireless Series are equipped with the finest drivers. The new Piega Ace Center Wireless uses a Piega AMT ribbon tweeter and two 120 mm MDS bass-midrange drivers, so in principle it’s a closed two-way system.
The Piega Ace Center Wireless is capable of covering a frequency range between 35 Hz and 25 kHz, and the integrated amplifier has a power output of 100 watts.
Compact and elegant
The speakers of the Piega Ace Wireless Series are of course made of aluminium, the surface of which is sandblasted and available in silver, black or white. Depending on the version, the speaker grill is finished with a textile fabric in black or grey.
With dimensions of 14 x 34 x 16 cm, the Piega Ace Center Wireless weighs 5 kg.
Prices and availability
The new Piega Ace Center Wireless is available immediately from specialist dealers, according to the Swiss manufacturer. The silver sandblasted version will cost € 990,-, the black anodised and white lacquered versions will cost € 50,- more, in this case € 1.040,-.
Getting to the point
With the now available Piega Ace Center Wireless, Piega SA completes the Piega Ace Wireless Series for the time being, thus providing a matching centre speaker to the previously available Piega Ace 30 Wireless as a bookshelf speaker system and the Piega Ace 50 Wireless as a floorstanding speaker system. This means that a multi-channel surround system can now be realised completely “wirelessly”, up to 7.1 channels based on WiSA technology.
