With the McIntosh MX950 Entertainment System in the Jeep Grand Cherokee L, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and McIntosh Laboratory Inc. presented another vehicle equipped with a jointly developed audio system earlier this year.
This collaboration was established back in 2020 when it was announced that an audio system from McIntosh Laboratory Inc. had been developed for the Jeep Grand Wagoneer Concept.
McIntosh MX950 Entertainment System – Match made in America
In fact, the collaboration between the two companies began almost five years ago. The declared aim of this cooperation is to raise the sound quality of an in-car entertainment system to a completely new level.
The audio systems developed by McIntosh Laboratory Inc. promise to achieve a level of quality that is in no way inferior to a high-end hi-fi system, thus offering the concert hall on four wheels. And this with a design claim that one is also used to from the conventional high-end HiFi solutions of the US American company.

In Jeep and McIntosh Laboratory, two iconic American brands have also collaborated to unite McIntosh’s sonic performance with the form and function of Jeep’s vehicle architecture, the two manufacturers promise.

True MAC Home Theater Listening Experience
The McIntosh MX950 Entertainment System is designed to allow a true MAC home theatre listening experience in the vehicle, according to the promise from the US-based high-end hi-fi company.
Using several patented McIntosh technologies, the system delivers crisp sound reproduction of the highest quality, with low distortion and lightning-fast response. The system is equipped with 19 high-performance speakers in twelve optimal positions, including the 10-inch subwoofer, which is said to deliver impressive bass imaging for a full surround sound experience.
At the heart of the system is a 17-channel amplifier that delivers up to 950 watts of power and, of course, features patented McIntosh Power Guard technology.
The engineers had full creative freedom to redesign the audio system to envelop all passengers in pristine sound.
This is achieved using specially tuned coaxial speakers, each with a 3.5-inch midrange driver and a 1-inch tweeter, driven by a dedicated amplifier channel. The door loudspeakers are designed to be particularly powerful in order to reproduce a very wide frequency spectrum with corresponding dynamics. The rear speakers in the tailgate are designed to harmonise perfectly with the 10″ dual voice coil subwoofer. Incidentally, the so-called McIntosh LD/HP (Low Distortion/High Performance) speaker design is used here.
Classic design features
The McIntosh MX950 entertainment system naturally features the iconic McIntosh design features found in the Jeep Grand Cherokee, such as the brand’s signature blue decibel indicators on the display, fluted metal control knobs, aluminium speaker frames and backlit logos on the door speaker grilles to accentuate the interior lighting with McIntosh’s signature blue.
In addition, the McIntosh “Mc” logo is emblazoned on the subwoofer grille as with McIntosh Monogrammed Heatsink.
The McIntosh MX950 entertainment system is optional on the Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland and Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit, and standard on the Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve.
The new Jeep Grand Cherokee in all variants will be available at authorised dealers later this year.
