First of all, the new Marantz MODEL 40n is of course a classic stereo integrated amplifier, which presents itself with all the virtues that one can expect from solutions of the renowned Japanese brand Marantz.

Thus, one also relies here on an amplifier stage in Class A/B, which, however, has been newly developed for the Marantz MODEL 40n, according to the manufacturer’s promise. With an output of two times 70 watts at speaker systems with an impedance of 8 ohms or even two times 100 watts at systems with an impedance of only 4 ohms, it clearly surpasses earlier models of the company in this class, Sound United LLC. is convinced.

Among other things, features such as a larger power transformer, four output transistors per channel, and a solid copper bus bar are responsible for this. Particularly short signal paths should also reduce the internal impedance and guarantee the high current capability of the Marantz MODEL 40n. Marantz HDAM once again central components

The new Marantz MODEL 40n of course also relies on Marantz HDAM, so-called Hyper-Dynamic Amplifier Modules, for which the manufacturer promises a particularly musical sound. The Marantz MODEL 40n delivers precise bass transients to smooth, balanced mids and highs, according to the manufacturer’s assessment, adding that it too has been tuned in the tried-and-true manner of the so-called Marantz Soundmasters.

From HDMI over Phono preamplifier – Flexible connection possibilities

The new Marantz MODEL 40n is to be characterised, as already mentioned in the introduction, by a high flexibility regarding the connections. The spectrum reaches here from analog up to digital interfaces.

Three analog inputs, a Line Out open the squad of interfaces, whereby an integrated phono preamplifier is available as a further option. The manufacturer states that this is a particularly high-quality solution and speaks of a Marantz Musical phono EQ stage, which is designed for drives equipped with MM cartridge systems.

A separate output is available for the integration of subwoofers, whereby an adjustable crossover allows the optimization to the respective room conditions.

An optical and coaxial S/PDIF interface are available for digital sources, but first and foremost an HDMI port. This technology platform not only offers the possibility to play back audio data in the most common formats in Linear PCM with up to 24 bit and 192 kHz as well as DSD up to DSD128, it also opens up the use in a multi-room audio streaming network with other systems based on HEOS Built-in Technology.

It is controlled by the HEOS app, which is available for Apple iOS as well as Google Android, and which also provides access to important streaming services such as Spotify including Spotify Connect, Amazon Music, TIDAL, TuneIn Internet Radio, podcasts and much more.

It is also possible to integrate the device into the smart home via this platform, including voice control, which relies on Amazon Alexa. Apple Siri is opened up by the fact that the platform also supports Apple AirPlay 2.

The new Marantz MODEL 40n can be integrated into the network via cable and an RJ45 Ethernet interface, or via its integrated WiFi module.

Finally, it should be mentioned that the new Marantz MODEL 40n naturally also supports Bluetooth, so that smartphones and tablets can be used directly as a source without being integrated into the network.

The new Marantz MODEL 40n presents a choice of black or silver-gold finishes, featuring the new Marantz brand design line that they already introduced with the Marantz MODEL 30 and Marantz SACD 30n solutions in September 2020.

The new Marantz MODEL 40n is expected to hit retailers in March 2022, with a suggested retail price of € 2.499,-.
