An almost complete stereo hi-fi system is to be available with the new Magnat Monitor Active 2000, whereby Magnat Audio-Produkte GmbH itself speaks of an active Bluetooth speaker. But apart from Bluetooth, various other connection options are available here, such as analog inputs including an integrated phono preamplifier and digital sources can also be connected directly.
For a long time, active loudspeakers were hardly an issue in the field of hi-fi, but gradually they are gaining a firm foothold as they are becoming more and more popular. This is due in large part to the fact that the trend is towards minimalist solutions, so music lovers want a fine hi-fi system, but in the most compact form possible. Loudspeaker systems are the linchpin of every hi-fi system, there is no getting around them. If you integrate as many components of a HiFi chain as possible into these systems, this seems to be the ideal solution.
This strategy of packing as much functionality as possible into an active loudspeaker system is pursued by several renowned manufacturers, including the German company Magnat Audio-Produkte GmbH, which is now presenting the latest such solution with the new Magnat Monitor Active 2000. They speak of a particularly versatile active Bluetooth stereo loudspeaker system, which is particularly versatile and is intended to be a full-fledged audio system of remarkable quality in its most compact form.
But whether it was really the best decision to call the new Magnat Monitor Active 2000 a Bluetooth Speaker… This name is all too easily associated with solutions that unfortunately often do not guarantee real quality. In this case, however, one can actually expect a full-fledged classic speaker system, whereby it is a compact so-called shelf speaker system.
The Magnat Monitor Active 2000 thus features a stable and low-resonance cabinet construction, using E1-MDF wood panels. The speakers rest on resonance-damping rubber feet.
The company speaks of an elegant design with high-quality black wood décor, whereby the front can be decorated with a removable loudspeaker grill, also in black, if desired. Unfortunately, it was decided here not to use magnets, but to use conventional drill holes for its mounting.
With dimensions of only 175 x 290 x 205 mm and a weight of 4.4 kg for the active speaker and 3.8 kg for the passive speaker, the Magnat Monitor Active 2000 should easily find its place anywhere, even if one takes care to ensure optimal placement. Especially, other sources are possible, but not necessary to enjoy music flexibly.
The Magnat Monitor Active 2000 does not lack connections, because first of all, as already mentioned, Bluetooth is available. It’s a pity that Bluetoooth 4.1 is used here instead of Bluetooth 5.0. For analog sources, a classic cinch pair is available, whereby an optional phono preamplifier can be used to integrate a record player, for example. This is designed for drives equipped with MM pickup systems. A further analog input in the form of a 3.5 mm stereo mini jack socket can be used to connect streaming devices and the like. For digital sources an optical and coaxial S/PDIF interface is available. Here you can either also connect streaming devices, but first and foremost a television. Audio signals are processed with up to 24 bit and 192 kHz.
The connection panel also provides controls for volume and input selection, which at first seems to be not really practical, since this is of course located on the back of the active speaker. In practice, however, you will anyway control the system using the remote control alone, which is of course part of the scope of delivery. The operating state of the speaker is indicated by a LED status indicator on the front. The connection between the active and passive speaker is made with a conventional speaker cable, so that you can flexibly choose the right length. The connections should be made with high-quality and stable gold-plated screw terminals.
The new Magnat Monitor Active 2000 is designed as a two-way bass reflex system. A 25 mm tweeter dome with optimized dispersion and a powerful ferrite magnet system is combined with a 125 mm FE-Dynamics low-mid driver, which uses a low-vibration, coated paper cone and a distortion-optimized magnet system. The flow-optimized bass-reflex system, which the manufacturer refers to as an Airflex port with a rounded reflex port to reduce flow noise, is led out to the rear.
The crossover network operates at 3.5 kHz and the system should be able to reproduce a frequency range between 38 Hz and 40 kHz.
These are driven by Class D amplifier modules, which provide a power output of twice 35 watts.
Shandro Fischer, Director of R&D Magnat Audio Products GmbH
“The Monitor Active 2000 is a real decathlete among loudspeakers. Its fully active design, streaming via Bluetooth and its digital and analogue inputs make it an all-rounder and ideal partner for modern music sources and stereo home cinema. And for lovers of analog music and DJs, we have even built in an MM preamplifier for high-quality turntables.
Finally, it should be mentioned that the new Magnat Monitor Active 2000 naturally has an auto-standby function.
The new Magnat Monitor Active 2000 will only be available via the web store of Magnat Audio-Produkte GmbH as well as Amazon. The recommended retail price is stated by the manufacturer as € 349,-. A special promotion price is also being offered for the market launch.
