Loewe klang mr Series – Three Multiroom Speakers for Sound Diversity

DTS Play-Fi, Google Chromecast and Apple AirPlay 2 – when it comes to flexibility, the Loewe klang mr series plays big, and the systems, which are now available in the form of Loewe klang mr1, Loewe klang mr3 and Loewe klang mr5, are also said to be convincing in terms of sound and design.

The new Loewe klang mr Series, which the German company Loewe Technology GmbH is now offering, is designed to provide sound diversity in all rooms. Three solutions are being launched here, namely the wireless speakers Loewe klang mr1, Loewe klang mr3 and Loewe klang mr5.

The systems are all characterised by flexibility, as a glance at the data sheet proves. The design also impresses with clarity and elegance. The manufacturer also promises a particularly fine sound.

Attractive design

What is striking at first glance is the very appealing design of these solutions. All of them are designed as Kang cones, which are characterised by comparatively compact dimensions. This allows for easy integration into any living environment.

The body of the Loewe klang mr1, Loewe klang mr3 and Loewe klang mr5 systems is completely covered on the sides with a textile fabric, which is supposed to be a high-quality acoustic fabric.

On the top, the designers have opted for a glass touch panel that not only looks very high-quality, but also has an appealing feel, as it serves as a control panel for direct control of the device.

Here, there are five favourite buttons that can be assigned functions according to the user’s wishes. An interesting feature is that these can be combined from different areas.

The panel is illuminated and should be understood as a homage to the typical Loewe eye in terms of design.

Loewe klang mr Series – True sound artists

The manufacturer from Kronach even describes the new solutions as sound artists that can play music throughout the entire house and convince with a rich sound.

And indeed, the data sheet shows that all three models are powerful solutions in their class. The Wireless Speakers, for example, are designed to guarantee a room-filling sound, and this in all three variants.

The Loewe klang mr1, Loewe klang mr3 and Loewe klang mr5 models all have active drivers plus a passive radiator to achieve the promised rich sound even with their comparatively compact dimensions.

Loewe sound mr1

The smallest model in the range has an amplifier module with a power output of 30 watts that drives a full-range driver, which in turn is supported by a passive radiator in the lowest frequency range. The frequency response of this solution, designed for small rooms, is given by the manufacturer as 75 Hz to 20 kHz.

This solution measures 160 x 188 x 154 mm and thus weighs 1.2 kg. As a special feature, this wireless speaker offers the option of being mounted directly on the wall with an included bracket, so that it ultimately takes up no space at all.

Loewe sound mr3

This solution is a little larger, measuring 196 x 321 x 187 mm and weighing 3.2 kg. However, this wireless speaker is also designed to fit anywhere in the house.

An amplifier module with 150 watts of power drives three full-range drivers and a subwoofer, and instead of a passive radiator, two of them are available. This solution is said to be suitable for medium-sized rooms and to be able to reproduce a frequency range between 41 Hz and 20 kHz.

Loewe sound mr5

The largest of the bunch is, of course, the Loewe klang mr5, because this wireless speaker measures 225 x 401 x 215 mm and weighs 4.4 kg.

The developers installed three full-range drivers, three tweeters and a subwoofer, which in turn is supported by a passive radiator. The amplifier module of this system delivers a remarkable 180 watts of total music power, so it’s obvious that the manufacturer recommends this solution for larger rooms.

Its spectrum ranges from 36 Hz to 20 kHz, which is also worth mentioning.

Streaming via a wide range of platforms

It must be explicitly emphasised that Loewe Technology GmbH is extremely flexible in its choice of streaming platform for the new Loewe klang mr Series. Not many systems on the market offer this many options, that’s for sure.

Loewe Technology GmbH has opted for DTS Play-Fi first and foremost, having entered into a corresponding partnership with the US technology company DTS Inc.

This makes it possible to access your own content in the network in a very convenient way, including data in hi-res audio with up to 24 bits and 192 kHz. Online offers can also be used directly and multi-room audio streaming is also possible, whereby it does not even have to be about other solutions of the same product series, but all solutions based on DTS Play-Fi are supported. Up to 32 speakers in the network can be used, up to four zones can be realised, whereby each zone can comprise up to 16 speaker systems.

DTS Play-Fi is also the direct connection to Smart Home solutions such as the voice control Amazon Alexa, but Apple HomeKit and Google Home are not left out either.

The solutions of the Loewe klang mr Series even allow music streaming via Apple AirPlay 2 and Google Chromecast, so that you can essentially use all relevant music streaming offers, from Spotify to Amazon Music, Deezer, Apple Music and TIDAL to Internet Radio.

Incidentally, the Loewe klang mr1, Loewe klang mr3 and Loewe klang mr5 systems are easily integrated into the network via WiFi, whereby the systems are equipped with corresponding modules according to IEEE 802.11n.

Bluetooth as a further option

So that you don’t have to rely on the network alone, but can also use mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets directly as a source, the wireless speakers Loewe klang mr1, Loewe klang mr3 and Loewe klang mr5 are also equipped with a Bluetooth module, even if this “only” corresponds to Bluetooth 4.2 and supports the Bluetooth protocols A2DP and AVRCP.

Equipped with WDAL 2.0

All three wireless speakers in the Loewe klang mr series are equipped with WDAL 2.0 to act as low-latency wireless satellite speakers and thus expand the sound stage of an audio system around the TV set, such as a correspondingly equipped soundbar from Loewe Technology GmbH.

Prices and availability

The systems in the Loewe klang mr series are only available in the basalt grey finish, so for the time being at least, there are no other design variants available. They are available immediately from specialist retailers, with the recommended retail price for the Loewe klang mr1 being € 349, for the Loewe klang mr3 € 549 and for the Loewe klang mr5 € 649.

Getting to the point

Since Loewe Technology GmbH is increasingly focusing on audio systems, so-called wireless speakers are virtually indispensable in the product range. It is hardly surprising that the German company relies on particularly elegant solutions. What is remarkable, however, is that they decided to design particularly versatile solutions that guarantee enormous flexibility in use. DTS Play-Fi, Google Chromecast and Apple AirPlay 2, plus Bluetooth, essentially cover all the requirements that can be placed on such systems.
