- Listen Later, this is the main innovation that Roon Labs LLC. can now offer with the latest version of Roon and Roon ARC, Roon 2.0.46 and Roon ARC 1.0.62.
From the very beginning, Roon Labs LLC. saw the Roon software as a solution that would open up completely new ways for users to play music and discover it for themselves. The declared aim was therefore to ensure the most intuitive possible access to the user’s own content, but also to content from streaming services, and to provide as much relevant information as possible and allow a wide variety of links.
A wide range of search and sorting options should also be offered, so that Roon is not just a streaming solution, but also a versatile music archive that is optimally customised to individual needs.
Listen Later, the new musical to-do list
With the latest versions of Roon as well as Roon ARC, Roon Labs LLC. is now introducing a particularly exciting feature, namely a kind of musical to-do list, as the software company states. Listen Later is the name of this new function, which is now available with Roon 2.0.46 and Roon ARC 1.0.62.
Everyone is probably familiar with the situation where you discover a new album or a new artist on a music streaming service, for example, and you think you absolutely have to listen to it more closely when you get the chance. This probably happens to a lot of people when the latest albums are released every week.
Instead of making a note somewhere else that you need to check out this or that album, you can now do it directly in Roon by adding the album, individual tracks or even an artist to the Listen Later list. To do this, simply click on an individual title, album or artist and select the Listen Later function, which is now available everywhere.
This generates nothing more than a new playlist, but one that is always updated automatically. Notes in Listen Later are structured according to the time at which content was added. And if a track or album has been listened to, it disappears from the list, but is still listed under the “Played items” heading.
The user can define what Roon or Roon ARC understands by ‘has already been listened to’. New options are available for this in the settings. For example, you can specify whether a certain time is relevant, such as ten, 20 or 30 minutes for an album or artist, or a certain length for a track or album, such as ten per cent, 20 per cent or 50 per cent.
Prices and availability
The latest versions of Roon and Roon ARC are now available for download and are of course free of charge for existing subscribers.
Getting to the point
With Listen Later, Roon Labs LLC. introduces a very helpful function to both Roon and Roon ARC, as it is a kind of musical to-do list. Regardless of whether it’s your own content or content from streaming services, you can use it to add individual tracks, albums and even artists to an automatically updated playlist that you want to listen to more closely in future.
