JBL Live Series – two wearing styles, one clear idea

JBL has split the new JBL Live Series pairing along a very practical line. The JBL Live 680NC is the On-ear model, resting directly on the ears and keeping weight down to 231,16 g. The JBL Live 780NC is the Over-ear version, enclosing the ears and weighing 260 g, which remains modest for a full-size wireless noise-cancelling headphone.

That distinction matters. An On-ear headphone is usually the more compact, commuter-friendly option, easier to slip into a bag and lighter on the head. An Over-ear headphone, by contrast, typically offers a more enveloping feel, a little more passive isolation and greater comfort for longer sessions. JBL is therefore not simply presenting two near-identical models at different prices, but two answers to different habits.

Both models fold completely and both are supplied with a carrying pouch, underlining the mobile character of the range. This is not a headphone concept built around the listening room. It is built around movement.

40 mm dynamic drivers and Hi-res Audio

At the heart of both the JBL Live 680NC and the JBL Live 780NC are 40 mm dynamic drivers. According to the manufacturer, they are intended to deliver a clearer and more detailed version of JBL Signature Sound, with a stated frequency response of 10 Hz to 40 kHz.
