These are loudspeaker systems that have been designed and tuned with great meticulousness by Fyne Audio chief developer Dr. Paul Mills himself, according to the English speaker manufacturer Fyne Audio, about the latest Fyne Audio F501SP and Fyne Audio F502SP solutions.
Fyne Audio is a comparatively young company, but you should not be misled by this. In fact, Fyne Audio’s solutions are based on decades of experience, as some of the “old hands” in the industry have come together to form a new company in order to transform their special ideas into outstanding products in the best possible way.
It is therefore not surprising that Fyne Audio has been able to acquire a wide range of customers in a very short time, who appreciate the solutions from Scotland.
The Fyne Audio F500 Series product line has also contributed to this success, as these are solutions that deliver impeccable results at very attractive prices and can be regarded as a reference for what Fyne Audio considers to be an optimal loudspeaker system. It is therefore exciting to see Fyne Audio introduce two loudspeaker systems which, although in principle belonging to the Fyne Audio 500 Series, are now available in Special Editions with numerous improvements to details and even features of higher product lines, with the help of Dr. Paul Mills, Chief Developer at Fyne Audio.
The new Fyne Audio F501SP and Fyne Audio F502SP loudspeaker systems are very special solutions that have been developed with the intention of transferring some of the best components and techniques from the Fyne Audio high-end lines to more affordable models, thus setting a new standard of quality. In practical terms, this means that the Fyne Audio F501SP and Fyne Audio F502SP solutions bring many of the insights gained from the driver, cabinet and crossover development of the Fyne Audio F700 Series and Fyne Audio F1 Series into a more compact, sleeker form.
The new Fyne Audio F501SP and Fyne Audio F502SP models inherit a number of features from their big brothers in the Fyne Audio F700 Series, most notably their drivers derived from that product line.
The new models Fyne Audio F501SP and Fyne Audio F502SP, for example, use Fyne Audio IsoFlare drivers derived from the Fyne Audio F700 Series. The new SP models from Fyne Audio are designed to benefit from the first-class magnesium dome tweeter and are therefore characterised by extremely controlled and clean radiation in the high-frequency range.
In addition, drivers with the typical Scottish manufacturer’s drive unit with magnetic focusing are used, whereby the higher flux density in the voice coil area leads to a tighter bass and enables higher efficiency.
The diaphragm made of fibre material as well as the so-called Fyne Audio Fyne Flute boundary clamping is also a development that comes directly from the IsoFlare drivers of the Fyne Audio F700 Series.
Both models are based on a bass reflex system with a so-called BassTrax sound guide, specifically a tratrix-shaped distribution cone on a solid aluminium sandwich base. This guarantees an even sound distribution and also makes the speaker system installation very flexible.
Great attention was once again paid during development to the crossovers, which rely solely on high-quality components and are handmade. Only the finest materials are used for the cabling, namely silver-plated cables from Van den Hul. Another detail that should not be forgotten is the possibility of chassis earthing via a five-pin connection terminal.
All this is “packed” in further improved housings, whereby it is particularly emphasised here that these are manufactured in Europe.
The manufacturer’s most important feature is a complex acoustic damping system with three different, complementary materials, plus elastic coupling of the drivers.
The various optimisations of the housing are intended to guarantee a particularly even image over a wide frequency range, with negligible distortion. The reproduction quality of the new Fyne Audio F501SP and Fyne Audio F502SP models, for example, should offer more detail and nuances than the models in the Fyne Audio F500 Series, as well as higher dynamics and downright tremendous low bass.
In summary, the Fyne Audio F501SP and Fyne Audio F502SP provide solutions that guarantee truly audiophile reproduction, with tight bass, smooth high frequencies and the ability to pinpoint a true point source with exceptional accuracy.
It goes without saying that such a high level of effort in terms of technical features naturally also deserves correspondingly fine design finishes. Not only is attention paid to speakers selected in pairs, but every detail of the workmanship should also be of the highest standard. This extends to the noble stand, which has two layers and sits on twisted light metal spikes.
From a purely technical point of view, the new Fyne Audio F501SP is a 2 1/2-way bass reflex system. It uses a 150 mm mid-range cone with fibre material and FyneFlute edge binding coupled with a 25 mm pressure chamber driver with magnesium dome and neodymium magnet as drive. In addition, a 150 mm driver with a diaphragm made of fibre material and FyneFlute edge clamping is used. The bass reflex system radiating downwards is, as already mentioned, equipped with a BassTrax sound guide and double-chamber low-frequency tuning. The crossover with a 1st order high-pass filter and a 2nd order low-pass filter is effective at 250 Hz and 1.7 kHz respectively. The loudspeaker system should reproduce a frequency range between 36 Hz and 34 kHz, with an impedance of 8 Ohm and an efficiency of 91 dB. Thus, this solution is suitable for amplifiers with a power between 30 and 180 Watts, whereby the nominal load is specified as 80 Watts, the peak load as 360 Watts. The dimensions are given as 984 x 288 x 318 mm. The loudspeaker system thus weighs 21 kg.
The Fyne Audio F502SP is also a 2 1/2-way bass reflex system, so the equipment is very similar to the model just mentioned. However, in addition to the 200 mm IsoFlare Point Source Driver for the mid-range and the 25 mm Magnesium Dome Compression Tweeter in its centre, a 200 mm woofer is used. This enables the loudspeaker system to reproduce a frequency range between 30 Hz and 34 kHz, with the crossover also starting at 250 Hz and 1.7 kHz. This loudspeaker system is designed for amplifiers with an output between 30 and 200 watts, with a nominal load of 100 watts and a peak load of 400 watts. The impedance is also specified here as 8 Ohm, but the sensitivity is 92 dB. Dimensions of 1,100 x 338 x 380 mm result in a mass of 30.4 kg.
Both the new Fyne Audio F501SP and the new Fyne Audio F502SP are offered in particularly elegant versions. The customer can choose between walnut veneer and black or white, with high-gloss piano lacquer always ensuring a flawless surface.
The Fyne Audio F501SP and Fyne Audio F502SP solutions are available immediately from specialist dealers.
For the Fyne Audio F501SP, the manufacturer offers a recommended retail price of € 3.499,- for the High Gloss Black and High Gloss White versions. The walnut version with high-gloss finish is to be offered at a recommended retail price of € 3,999. For those who are enthusiastic about the Fyne Audio F502SP, the recommended retail price for this model is € 3,999 for the High Gloss White and High Gloss Black finishes and € 4,599 for the Walnut finish.
