Focal On Wall 300 Line – Focal On Wall 301 and Focal On Wall 302

After presenting the Focal 1000 Series of in-wall as well as in-ceiling loudspeaker systems at the beginning of this year, the new Focal On Wall 300 Line is now to be launched as a further product series offering loudspeaker systems for discreet integration into the living space.

Focal On Wall 301 as well as Focal On Wall 302, this is how the new Focal On Wall 300 Line, which the French speaker specialist Focal JMlab now presents, is presented at the start. Nomen et omen, it concerns here a new product line, which is laid out particularly for the wall assembly and thus for the most space-saving integration into the living space.

Likewise, it is aimed at users in the stereo as well as home cinema segment and promises a sound performance that is in no way inferior to conventional speaker systems.

The new Focal On Wall 300 line follows the Focal 1000 Series of in-wall or in-ceiling loudspeaker systems that the company unveiled earlier this year.

Focal On Wall 301 and Focal On Wall 302 – Two models

The new line includes two models, the Focal On Wall 301 and Focal On Wall 302 solutions, both of which are designed to allow for quick installation, with the company stating that they were primarily developed around a TV for home cinema or high-quality stereo sound.

It is interesting that the two speaker systems are designed in such a way that they can do justice to two tasks that are relevant in this particular context. Both the Focal On Wall 301 and the Focal On Wall 302 have a symmetrical driver arrangement, which means that the speakers can be used vertically for the left and right channels, but also horizontally, for example as a center speaker.

For both models, the manufacturer talks about solutions that are supposed to present themselves as slimline speakers, which means they are very flat, but also very slim at the same time.

Focal On Wall 301

The Focal On Wall 301 is a two-way bass reflex system that relies on two 100 mm Flax MidBass drivers and a 25 mm TNF tweeter with aluminum / magnesium diaphragm. The drivers are symmetrically arranged, as mentioned earlier, with the two mid-bass speaker drivers flanking the tweeter.

The bass reflex ports are found on the angled end faces of the Focal On Wall 301 and thus radiate evenly into the room.

For the Focal On Wall 301, the manufacturer specifies a frequency range between 53 Hz and 28 kHz, a crossover frequency of 2.5 kHz, a sensitivity of 87 dB and an impedance of 8 ohms. The Focal On Wall 301 is designed for amplifiers with a power output between 25 and 130 watts.

The system has dimensions of 80 x 15.5 x 9 cm and weighs only 5.9 kg.

Focal On Wall 302

The Focal On Wall 302 is a so-called 2.5-way bass reflex system, so the 25 mm TNF tweeter is combined with four mid-bass speaker drivers, each with a diameter of 4 inches and also relying on a special flax cellulose cone.

Here, too, the four low-mid drivers flank the centrally located tweeter, and the bass reflex ports are found on the two beveled end faces.

With an impedance of 8 ohms, a sensitivity of 91 dB, and a frequency response of 50 Hz to 28 kHz, this speaker is said to be designed for amplifiers rated between 40 and 180 watts. The crossover intervenes here at 1.1 kHz as well as 2.5 kHz.

Compared to the Focal On Wall 301, the Focal On Wall 302 is a bit larger, at least in length. It measures 125 cm, while the width is only 15.5 cm and the depth is also very slim at 9 cm. The speaker system weighs 9.4 kg.

Simple assembly

To emphasize this once again, both systems are supposed to be very easy and quick to install. Of course, a matching speaker grill is included in the scope of delivery, which is held in position by means of magnets. A detail here: the manufacturer’s logo can of course be rotated on the speaker grill so that it is always aligned correctly, regardless of whether you mount the speaker horizontally or vertically.

Speaking of mounting, it should be mentioned that Focal JMlab provides the two systems Focal On Wall 301 and Focal On Wall 302 primarily for wall mounting, but nevertheless offers a suitable stand foot, if you want to rely on the same models for surround in home cinema, for example, and set them up freely in the room.

As the manufacturer states, the two new systems are to correspond completely to the DNA of Focal JMlab and are thus compatible with a variety of speaker systems.

Both systems will be offered in White High Gloss and Black Satin and should be available from the end of September 2021. The French manufacturer explicitly points out that the new Focal On Wall Line will be manufactured in the main factory in Saint-Étienne.

According to the manufacturer, the models of the new Focal On Wall 300 Line will be available at retailers during September 2021. The suggested retail price is listed as €999 for the Focal On Wall 301 and €1,499 for the Focal On Wall 302, each of which are unit prices. The optional stand costs € 699 per pair.

Getting to the point

With the new Focal On Wall 300 Line, two speaker systems are available that are primarily designed for wall mounting and were conceived as playing partners for high-quality stereo sound or even surround around the TV in the living room. The French company Focal JMLab promises a sound performance that is in no way inferior to conventional speaker systems.
