EAT E-GLO II Phono Stage – Audiophile virtues and modern industrial design

E.A.T. - European Audio Team describes the new EAT E-GLO II Phono Stage, which the Czech specialist is now presenting, as a phono preamplifier with a state-of-the-art design that maximises the performance of any pick-up system.

  • E.A.T. - European Audio Team präsentiert nunmehr die neue EAT E-GLO II Phono Stage, die jedwedem Tonabnehmer-System dessen beste Ergebnisse entlocken soll.

In addition to the finest record players, tonearms and pick-up systems, the Czech company E.A.T. – European Audio Team also specialises in phono preamps, always using tubes, as they are one of the manufacturers that made them themselves. This is also the case with the latest solution from E.A.T. – European Audio Team, the new EAT E-GLO II Phono Stage.

The EAT E-GLO II Phono Stage is a phono preamplifier that is designed to bring out the full potential of almost any pick-up system in terms of sound quality.

Circuit design based on six tubes

No fewer than six tubes are used in the new EAT E-GLO II Phono Stage, with the manufacturer relying on four ECC83 and two ECC88 and claiming that these are particularly appreciated by audiophile HiFi enthusiasts due to their exceptional performance. In addition, the design chosen here naturally also offers the option of swapping the tubes and thus the flexibility to experiment with different tube types as the mood takes you.

Input stage with high-quality step-up transformer

Another special feature of the new EAT E-GLO II Phono Stage is that it uses a fully balanced input stage with a Lundahl LL1932 step-up transformer, whose amplification of no less than 45 dB makes a significant contribution to improving the overall audio quality, as this puts less strain on the tubes and thus achieves signal processing with significantly lower noise than conventional phono preamps based on tube technology.

The equalisation here is completely passive and, according to the manufacturer, only high-quality components are used in the output stage, which naturally also contributes to the fact that the new EAT E-GLO II Phono Stage can deliver a particularly high sound quality.

External power supply

To ensure that there is no risk of damaging the sound quality of the sensitive electronics, the power supply for the new EAT E-GLO II Phono Stage has been outsourced as the EAT E-Glo 2 PS. This also gave the developers the opportunity to design a particularly powerful power supply based on a toroidal transformer manufactured to customer specifications. In addition, low-noise resistors and high-quality capacitors are used, as emphasised by the E.A.T. – European Audio Team.

Flexibly adaptable for a wide variety of pickup systems

The EAT E-GLO II Phono Stage offers all the relevant setting options for optimum customisation so that the phono preamp can be used flexibly with a wide variety of MM and MC cartridge systems, as promised by the manufacturer, and the full sound potential can be teased out of them. A series of selector switches and rotary encoders are provided on the top panel, while numerous status LEDs on the front panel provide information on the operating status of the phono preamp. There are also DIP switches on the rear panel.

The capacitance for MM cartridge systems can be set to 50 pF, 150 pF, 270 pF, 370 pF, 520 pF, 620 pF, 740 pF and 840 pF, while the resistance can be set to 10 Ohm, 20 Ohm, 40 Ohm, 80 Ohm, 150 Ohm, 300 Ohm, 600 Ohm and 1.2 kOhm. For MC pickup systems, the selection options 2.5 Ohm, 10 Ohm, 20 Ohm, 40 Ohm, 80 Ohm, 150 Ohm and 300 Ohm are available. Of course, the phono preamp also has a switchable subsonic filter.

In addition to an unbalanced input in the form of a pair of RCA sockets, this solution also offers XLR connections for balanced drive units. However, only a pair of RCA sockets is available as an output.

Brings colour to life…

The EAT E-GLO II Phono Stage has an extremely elegant design and features a particularly nice detail: The tubes of the phono preamp can be illuminated using LEDs, in a wide variety of colours. According to E.A.T. – European Audio Team, this gives the phono preamp a personalised touch.

Prices and availability

The new EAT E-GLO II Phono Stage is now available from specialist retailers at a price of € 8.995,-. Side-mounted panels in Piano Black or Makassar are available for the phono preamp.

Getting to the point

The new EAT E-GLO II Phono Stage from E.A.T. – European Audio Team should not only prove to be an enormously versatile phono preamplifier that can be optimally adapted to different MC and MC cartridge systems and is equipped with the finest tubes, but also a very slim, elegant solution that knows how to combine audiophile virtues with the demand for elegant lifestyle solutions.
