As fine as the reproduction of vinyl records is, it must be clearly stated that it is by far the most demanding way to enjoy music. It has to be recognised that a record player is by far the most sensitive device in a HiFi system, especially when it comes to performing at the very highest level. Countless factors and external influences affect the quality of the entire chain, sometimes more, sometimes less, and some things are difficult to influence.
The renowned German company Clearaudio electronic GmbH has once again dedicated itself to eliminating hum loops and electromagnetic interference in a HiFi chain as effectively as possible and thus ensuring interference-free music enjoyment, and is now offering the new Clearaudio Terra, a so-called earthing box, for this task.
Correct earthing is crucial…
Clearaudio electronic GmbH is convinced that the right earthing is crucial for the quality of a HiFi chain. The company explains that electronic devices in the home can unintentionally cause high-frequency interference, which normally does not need to be taken into account, but in the case of a high-quality HiFi chain can sometimes massively impair its sound quality.
In addition, faulty or even missing earthing of a HiFi chain can cause an annoying hum, and this is exactly where the new Clearaudio Terra earthing box comes in.
Sophisticated design for effective operation
The main task of the new Clearaudio Terra is to bring together all the necessary earths of a HiFi chain at a central point in order to prevent or minimise the aforementioned interference in the best possible way.
To achieve this, the manufacturer from Erlangen has opted for a well thought-out design. The Clearaudio Terra has a star-shaped endpoint design that reliably prevents hum loops. In addition, the housing of the Clearaudio Terra is filled with special sand, which helps to specifically dampen vibrations and electromagnetic interference, ultimately guaranteeing an unadulterated sound image.
The company also explains that a plug, which is connected exclusively to the protective earth, ensures earthing via the socket without establishing a direct connection to the mains current. Clearaudio electronic GmbH is convinced that this offers additional safety and prevents unwanted interference.
Customised adaptation to different needs
The new Clearaudio Terra is designed in such a way that it can be easily adapted to different requirements. For example, there are three connections at the rear for direct earthing, also referred to as grounded, and three further connections with potential difference and therefore ground lifted. Three high-quality earthing cables are included in the scope of delivery, so that the Clearaudio Terra is ready for immediate use.
Elegant appearance
Experience has shown that solutions dedicated to interference-free power supply are rarely designed as elegant products; rather, they are developed with the intention that they will be discreetly hidden somewhere anyway.
This should not be necessary with the new Clearaudio Terra, as the manufacturer emphasises, as they have deliberately opted for a compact solution with a width of 90 mm, a depth of 147 mm and a height of 93 mm, which is also elegant with an anodised housing in silver or black. However, the good piece does weigh an impressive 1,5 kg.
