Bluesound PULSE SUB+ Wireless Powered Subwoofer

A subwoofer was already available within the Bluesound Wireless Streaming system, namely the Bluesound PULSE SUB, which served first and foremost as a playing partner for the Buesound PULSE Soundbar 2i. Now Bluesound announces a new subwoofer, namely the Bluesound PULSE SUB+ Wireless Powered Subwoofer.

Bluesound International is considered one of the leading providers of multi-room audio streaming. On the basis of the BluOS streaming platform, which is also supported by other leading manufacturers such as NAD Electronics International, Bluesound Professional, Dali Speaker A/S and Monitor Audio Ltd., Bluesound International offers a wide range of systems, starting with wireless speakers, a soundbar, streaming clients without without an integrated amplifier, even a music server with integrated CD ripper. For some time now, the range of products has also included a subwoofer, whereby this served primarily as an extension for the Canadian company’s soundbar, the Bluesound PULSE Soundbar 2i. This subwoofer, the Bluesound PULSE SUB, is now being replaced by a new model, the Bluesound PULSE SUB+ Wireless Power Subwoofer.

The new Bluesound PULSE SUB+ Wireless Powered Subwoofer serves, like the previous Bluesound PULSE SUB, first and foremost as an extension for the Bluesound PULSE Soundbar 2i, but can also be used with other solutions of the Bluesound family, such as the Bluesound POWERNODE 2i with HDMI and the Bluesound PULSE 2i. The new model has a particularly flat design so that it can be integrated into the living environment without any problems. Flat in a corner, even directly on the wall, or under the couch…

The new Bluesound PULSE SUB+ Wireless Powered Subwoofer, for example, measures 470 mm wide and 300 mm high, but is only 146 mm deep. It is also designed as a so-called front-firing subwoofer.

This means that it can be placed very close to the wall, it is even possible to mount it directly on the wall, so that it takes up little or no space at all. With a weight of only 8.28 kg, there is no need to worry about mounting the subwoofer, especially since a suitable wall mounting device is included in the scope of delivery.

It is also possible to place the new Bluesound PULSE SUB+ Wireless Powered Subwoofer horizontally, i.e. to place it on the floor and hide it under the couch.

This flexibility is of course supported by the fact that, as the name easily suggests, this is a subwoofer that is integrated “wirelessly”, naturally via the BluOS streaming platform.

For this purpose, the new Bluesound PULSE SUB+ Wireless Powered subwoofer is equipped with a WiFi module according to IEEE 802.11ac with dual band support, but an RJ45 Ethernet interface is also available as an alternative. In addition, and we don’t want to conceal this, the Bluesound PULSE SUB+ Wireless Powered Subwoofer can also be controlled in the classic way via audio cable, for which it has a line level as well as mono low input. The USB ports on the subwoofer, and this should not be forgotten either, are for service purposes only and have nothing to do with everyday functions.

The focus here is on an 8 inch woofer with a polypropylene membrane, which is controlled by means of DSP-based signal processing via a Class D amplifier. This delivers an output of 150 watts. The manufacturer refers to this as a Smart DSP Amplifier in Class D.

Commissioning is to be absolutely simple and straightforward, using the intuitive BluOS Controller App, which is available for Apple iOS, Google Android, Amazon FireOS, Microsoft Windows and Apple macOS.

With the help of this app, the new Bluesound PULSE SUB+ Wireless Powered Subwoofer is not only assigned to one zone and thus to the Bluesound PULSE 2i Soundbar, a Bluesound POWERNODE 2i with HDMI or a Wireless Speaker like the Bluesound PULSE 2i, but also to all relevant parameters such as level and crossover frequency as well as phase, in order to guarantee an optimal reproduction.

It is also interesting to note that the new Bluesound PULSE SUB+ Wireless Powered Subwoofer will be available not only in subtle black but also in white. Of course, this also facilitates the most discreet integration into the living environment.

The recommended retail price for the new Bluesound PULSE SUB+ Wireless Powered Subwoofer is € 849,-, and it should be available by the end of October 2020. As already mentioned, a wall mounting device is included in the scope of delivery, as well as rubber feet for horizontal and horizontal placement next to or under furniture.

Getting to the point

The new model has a particularly flat design so that it can be integrated into the living environment without any problems. Flat in a corner, even directly on the wall, or under the couch…
