Block CVR-100+ MKIII Stereo All-in-One Receiver

The German company Audioblock GmbH describes the now available Block CVR-100+ MKIII Stereo All-in-One Receiver as a new flagship in the field of multifunctional systems. It is the logical further development of the Block CVR-100+ MKII.

The new Block CVR-100+ MKIII Stereo All-in-One Receiver is a compact, elegant device that accommodates all relevant functions. Audioblock GmbH is clearly building on the advantages of its direct predecessor, the Block CVR-100+ MKII, and is even talking about consistent further development, and that the Block CVR-100+ MKIII Stereo All-in-One Receiver is the new flagship in the category of multifunctional systems.

A category that has always been of great importance to Audioblock GmbH, and is even one of the company’s most important solutions.

Block CVR-100+ MKIII Stereo All-in-One Receiver – The new multifunctional system

For years, Audioblock GmbH has been successfully devoting itself to this product category, whereby, frankly speaking, only the German company refers to so-called multi-functional systems; in general, this category can indeed be described as all-in-one solutions, as Audioblock GmbH does in the epithet of the new solution.

The fact is, however, that the new Block CVR-100+ MKIII Stereo All-in-One Receiver remains true to its strategy and combines all the relevant functions expected of a modern hi-fi system in a compact, elegant form.

The spectrum ranges from simple playback of audio CDs and radio to streaming via the network including multi-room and the integration of mobile devices via Bluetooth.

From CD to streaming

Even though it is always propagated that the time of the classic audio CD is over, the new Block CVR-100+ MKIII Stereo All-in-One Receiver of course – nomen est omen – also relies on a CD drive. And that’s a good thing, because users still have hundreds, sometimes thousands of audio CDs on their shelves, and they want to use them. In addition to pure audio CDs, HDCDs as well as CD-Rs and CD-RWs with MP3 files can also be played, for the sake of completeness.

Of course, the Block CVR-100+ MKIII Stereo All-in-One Receiver also focuses on streaming, using the only real industry standard, UPnP, and the new Block CVR-100+ MKIII Stereo All-in-One Receiver is certified as dlna.

The integration into the network is done either via a cable and an RJ45 Ethernet interface, or via the integrated WiFi module.

Simple streaming control is provided by the UNDOK app, which is available for Apple iOS and Google Android.

With the help of this app, you can not only play back your own content in all relevant formats such as AAC, AAC+, MP3, WMA, WAV or FLAC, create playlists, and even use several devices in the network in a Multiroom network. Up to five zones can be used via Connected Room, whereby all network-capable solutions from Audioblock GmbH from the year of manufacture 2016 can “play along”.

Of course, you can also access streaming services via the network, first and foremost Spotify including Spotify Connect, by far the most important service of this kind on the market.

Radio is also available via the Internet, with access to a worldwide offering of thousands and thousands of radio stations. In addition, the new Block CVR-100+ MKIII Stereo All-in-One Receiver also has a classic FM and DAB+ tuner, so that content is also available via terrestrial radio. Whether digital or analogue or network, ten station memories are available for all three types of reception.

Bluetooth as Receiver and Transmitter

The Bluetooth module integrated in the new Block CVR-100+ MKIII Stereo All-in-One Receiver is designed as a so-called transceiver, i.e. it supports receiving and transmitting.

This means that a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet, as well as a PC or Mac, can be directly integrated as a source via Bluetooth. Ultimately, all conceivable streaming offers are available, it is only a question of the corresponding app.

In addition, the Bluetooth module can also be used to control Bluetooth headphones, so that you can enjoy music all to yourself, for example, at a late hour, without disturbing your flatmates.

However, and this should be mentioned at this point, there is also a conventional connection for headphones in the form of a 6.3 mm stereo jack. This is hidden behind a cover directly on the front of the device.

Equipped for analogue and digital sources

Speaking of connections, the new Block CVR-100+ MKIII Stereo All-in-One Receiver offers plenty of them, both in analogue and digital form. Three analogue inputs in the form of pairs of RCA sockets are available on the rear panel, as are a pre-out and a record-out, also in the form of RCA connections. By the way, there is also a phono preamplifier, even if this is reserved for drives equipped with MM cartridge systems.

For digital sources, the new Block CVR-100+ MKIII Stereo All-in-One Receiver offers three optical and one coaxial S/PDIF interface, and there’s also a USB port.

Class A/B amplifier

The Block CVR-100+ MKIII Stereo All-in-One Receiver’s integrated amplifier provides a power output of 52 watts twice for speaker systems with an impedance of 8 ohms and 60 watts twice for solutions with an impedance of 4 ohms.

It should be emphasised that the Block CVR-100+ MKIII Stereo All-in-One Receiver allows the connection of two pairs of speakers and thus an A, B and AB mode.

Convenient control

It should also be mentioned that the unit offers tone control and, of course, comes with an infrared remote control. A generously dimensioned, graphics-capable display, a rotary encoder and numerous buttons for convenient control are available directly on the unit.

High-quality workmanship

In the proven manner, the new Block CVR-100+ MKIII Stereo All-in-One Receiver is to present itself with a solid metal housing, whereby the front is made of aluminium and has been refined with a brushed surface. The system is available in black or silver and weighs 9.1 kg (430 x 118 x 283 mm).
