Bang & Olufsen BeoPLAY E8 Sport – Sporty True Wireless In-ear Headphones

Bang & Olufsen is now taking a sporty approach with the presentation of the new Bang & Olufsen BeoPLAY E8 Sport, a wireless indoor headphone. Bang & Olufsen Signature Sound will be available for the first time for sporting leisure activities.

When it comes to sports, music is a must for many people. It has been proven that music can have a stimulating effect and thus enable the user to call up more power and train more effectively. In short, it is more fun to be active when music is involved, whether in the gym or across the country on a bike or jogging.

Many users like to use in-ear headphones because they offer the freedom of movement they need, especially when it comes to true wireless in-ear headphones such as the new Bang & Olufsen BeoPLAY E8 Sport.

The new Bang & Olufsen BeoPLAY E8 Sport is the first version of Bang & Olufsen’s B & O BeoPLAY brand of in-ear headphones designed specifically for sports, and the manufacturer promises that they will deliver the typical Bang & Olufsen signature sound, are extremely robust yet lightweight, and have a long playing life.

They are designed with an electrodynamic 5.7 mm driver, whereby the technical data specified in this context, such as a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, are determined primarily by the signal transmission used, and this is Bluetooth 5.1 based on a module from Qualcomm. The new Bang & Olufsen BeoPLAY E8 Sport uses AAC and aptX in addition to SBC, providing ‘CD quality’ playback on smartphones with Apple iOS and Google Android alike. That one doesn’t go any further here and also supports aptX HD, for example, is rather of minor importance for the sporty application.

What is much more important is that the new Bang & Olufsen BeoPLAY E8 Sport is particularly light at only 6.4 g and ergonomically designed for safe but comfortable use. “Fit for sport” is how Bang & Olufsen describes the design. For optimum comfort, the new Bang & Olufsen BeoPLAY E8 Sport comes with four pairs of silicone ear tips in XS, S, M and L, three pairs of silicone earfins in S, M and L, and a pair of Comply Foam Ear Tips, which provide a very good fit and at the same time offer very good, if passive, protection against ambient noise.

The earphones themselves are made of aluminium, plastic and silicone, and are IP57 certified and therefore resistant to dust, splash water and perspiration. In fact, they can even withstand water up to one metre deep, for up to 30 minutes, although this is more theoretical.

Of course, the new Bang & Olufsen BeoPLAY E8 Sport has built-in microphones so that it can be used as a hands-free kit and you can also access voice control via Apple Siri and Google Assistant. It is of course also possible to control directly from the headphones, for which the outside is designed as a button.

How could it be otherwise, of course Bang & Olufsen also provides a suitable app for the new Bang & Olufsen BeoPLAY E8 Sport, the Bang & Olufsen app. This app can be used to activate an equalizer, for example, to adjust the playback to suit your own preferences. Bang & Olufsen refers to this as BeoSonic, and also provides a special Transparency Mode that makes it easier to see the environment. But to emphasize this, the new Bang & Olufsen BeoPLAY E8 Sport does not offer active noise reduction.

The two earplugs each contain lithium-ion batteries with 60 mAh, which are said to offer a playing time of up to seven hours, at least at moderate volume, as the manufacturer itself states. Of course, the scope of delivery includes a small transport case, which also serves as a charging station for the Bang & Olufsen BeoPLAY E8 Sport, thus having its own 450 mAh battery as a power bank. This is intended to achieve a total playing time of 30 hours away from the power outlet, with a quick-charging function to achieve a playing time of up to one and a half hours after only 20 minutes of charging. The complete charging in the transport case takes about two and a half hours. The transport box is charged either via USB-C or Qi Wireless Charging, whereby it takes two hours in the first case and two and a half hours in the second.

The new Bang & Olufsen BeoPLAY E8 Sport will be available in Oxygen Blue or Black, and will soon be available directly from Bang & Olufsen as well as from specialist retailers. Once again, B & O BeoPLAY brand solutions have proven to be a premium segment when it comes to price. The new Bang & Olufsen BeoPLAY E8 Sport, for example, requires a very “sporty” € 350 budget. The company also offers a suitable charging station for wireless charging on request. This B & O BeoPLAY Charging Pad costs a proud € 125,-.
