Story Highlights
  • Audio-Technica Ltd. claims that its new Audio-Technica AT-LP70X Full Automatic Belt-drive Turntable and Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT Fully Automatic Wireless Belt-drive Turntable offer a plug-and-play solution for beginners.

The Japanese company Audio-Technica Ltd. has long been known for its wide range of record players, with a particular focus on optimised solutions for beginners. The turntables, which are usually delivered ready to play, are designed to make it easy for music lovers to enter the world of vinyl.

This also applies to those drives that are now being launched in the form of the Audio-Technica AT-LP70X Full Automatic Belt-drive Turntable and Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT Fully Automatic Wireless Belt-drive Turntable from Audio Technica Ltd.

Perfect for beginners?

Audio-Technica Ltd. describes the new Audio-Technica AT-LP70X and Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT solutions as fully automatic belt-drive turntables that are perfect for vinyl lovers to get started with, although it is fair to say that these are turntables that will give pleasure for many years to come.

The two turntables have been designed in such a way that, although they can be offered at an attractive price, they nevertheless offer an appealing quality.

According to the manufacturer, these turntables combine the experience of warm, analogue sound with user-friendly features.

The Audio-Technica AT-LP70X and Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT are, of course, capable of playing both LPs and 45s at both 33 1/3 and 45 revolutions per minute, with the selection easily made at the touch of a button. The drives have a built-in switchable phono preamplifier that allows the record players to be connected directly to an All-in-One system, a HiFi system or even to active speakers without the need for further investment, without these having to have a dedicated phono input.

Die-cast aluminium platter with belt drive

The two Audio-Technica AT-LP70X and Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT turntables feature die-cast aluminium platters with a felt mat. These platters are driven by a belt drive.

Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT with integrated Bluetooth module

Another advantage of the Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT is that it has an integrated Bluetooth module and can therefore be connected ‘wirelessly’ to a wide range of audio systems. In this context, it is particularly important to emphasise that the Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT not only supports the SBC and AAC codecs, but also the Qualcomm Corporation aptX and aptX Adaptive codecs, thus ensuring very high-quality signal transmission.

It is probably not surprising that Audio-Technica Ltd. recommends one of its own products as the ideal partner for this, namely the Audio-Technica AT-SP3X Powered Bookshelf Speakers, which can be connected both by cable and via Bluetooth.

Ready to play immediately with pre-installed pickup system

The Audio-Technica AT-LP70X and Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT turntables come with a pickup system already installed on the J-shaped tonearms: an AT-VM95C Integral Dual Moving Magnet Phono Cartridge.

In this context, the manufacturer expressly points out that users can easily upgrade at any time, as all models in the Audio-Technica VM95 series are available for this purpose.

Easiest handling

We already mentioned that both turntables are so-called fully automatic turntables, but we would like to emphasise this again at this point. All you have to do is select the required speed and start playback, and the music will start playing.

Prices and availability

The new turntables from Audio-Technica Ltd. are already available from specialist retailers, with a choice of three design variants. The turntables are not only available in white-silver and black-silver, but also in what we consider to be a particularly attractive black-bronze finish. In addition to the felt mat already mentioned, a matching dust cover and RCA cable are also included.
The price for the Audio-Technica AT-LP70X is quoted as US$ 199, – and for the Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT as US$ 299,-.

Getting to the point

Audio-Technica Ltd. wants to make it possible for music lovers to enter the world of vinyl records at a particularly affordable price with the two new Audio-Technica AT-LP70X and Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT turntables. The Japanese company is relying on turntables that are designed as fully automatic units and are therefore particularly easy to use. Both come with everything needed for operation, starting with a pre-installed cartridge system, an integrated phono preamplifier, and the Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT even has Bluetooth.
