Over the past few months, Linkplay Technology Inc. has caused quite a stir in the streaming sector, clearly shifting previously established boundaries and causing many an established manufacturer to ponder the vehemence with which Linkplay Technology Inc. has entered the market with the WiiM brand and served it with very exciting solutions.

And Linkplay Technology Inc. is apparently continuing to do everything in its power to maintain this momentum, as it presented its first wireless speaker, the WiiM Sound Smart Speaker, at High-end 2025.

A milestone for the WiiM brand

The new WiiM Sound Smart Speaker represents a milestone for the WiiM brand, according to the manufacturer’s description. It is the first solution specifically designed as a smart speaker, which has been designed from the ground up to deliver exceptional sound, intelligent connectivity and seamless integration into the WiiM ecosystem, according to Linkplay Technology Inc.

Compact and elegant

The WiiM Sound Smart Speaker is said to be an elegant, compact solution, measuring no more than 146 x 146 x 192 mm and weighing in at 2,5 kg. The discreet black housing even has a 1.8-inch touchscreen display on the front and sensor buttons on the top front to control the volume and playback.

WiFi, Bluetooth and analogue

The WiiM Sound Smart Speaker is primarily used to access content via the network, of course, with not only an RJ45 Ethernet interface, but also a latest-generation WiFi module that allows the use of Google Cast, Amazon Alexa Cast, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect and UPnP. It wouldn’t be a smart speaker if it didn’t also offer voice control using Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and WiiM Voice Remote. The WiiM Voice Remote is included in the scope of delivery.

Bluetooth 5.3 is available for the direct integration of smartphones and tablets, and there is also an analogue input in the form of a 3,5 mm stereo mini jack.

Amazingly powerful and versatile

The WiiM Sound Smart Speaker relies on DSP-based signal processing, fuelling a 4-inch woofer and two dual-balanced mode radiator tweeters with a Class D amplifier module.

Automatic Room Correction is designed to ensure a room-filling sound, with a 10-band graphic EQ as well as a parametric EQ, whereby various settings can be saved via presets and recalled at any time. The WiiM Home app, which is available for Apple iOS, Google Android, but will soon also be available for Apple macOS and Microsoft Windows, is used for control.

Of course, two speakers can be connected to form a stereo pair. What’s more, in combination with selected other WiiM brand solutions such as a WiiM Amp Ultra, the WiiM Sound Smart Speaker can even be used as a surround speaker in a multi-channel system based on Dolby Digital with 5.1-channel surround.

Prices and availability

The new WiiM Sound Smart Speaker should be available from specialist retailers in the third quarter of 2025, according to the manufacturer. A price has not yet been announced.

Getting to the point

The ecosystem around the WiiM brand is growing and growing, and Linkplay Technology Inc. is presenting a wireless speaker for the first time as an extension of the existing product line, a so-called smart speaker, namely the new WiiM Sound Smart Speaker, at High-end 2025. This acts as a flexible audio solution in combination with all the other WiiM brand solutions and can be used as a single audio system, for example as a radio alarm clock in the bedroom, as an audio system in the bathroom or kitchen, or as a small stereo pair in the study. It can even be used as a surround speaker.
