Four models – from elegant bookshelf speakers to slimline floorstanding speakers

The new generation Spendor A Line was unveiled earlier this year at the Bristol HiFi Show 2025 and comprises four solutions, all of which are designed, developed and manufactured at Spendor Audio Ltd’s state-of-the-art production facilities on the outskirts of Sheffield in the UK.

The Spendor A Line MK2 comprises the Spendor A1.2, A2.2, Spendor A4.2 and Spendor A7.2 models. Each speaker in the range has been carefully enhanced to meet the needs of audiophiles and music lovers alike, ensuring that the Spendor A Line MK2 solutions offer a perfect balance between price and performance.

Numerous innovations and improvements

The speakers feature a number of innovations and improvements, as the English speaker specialist states. Of course, the company continues to build on the advantages of the multi-award-winning previous generation of the Spendor A Line, but also relies on the technical innovations of the Spendor D7 speakers.

The new model generation features new drivers with improved driver damping in all models, and new 27 mm tweeters with a soft dome and wider surround back chamber in the Spendor A4.2 and Spendor A7.2 models in particular. To match this, the developers used an improved crossover for these two speakers.

In turn, all models are said to feature improved cabinet damping and – in the case of the bass reflex systems – improved and therefore refined port tuning.

The manufacturer also emphasises the fact that the Spendor A Line MK2 speaker systems have been calibrated and tuned to the reference standard for broadcasting, meaning that they can boast a particularly accurate performance.

The Spendor A Line MK2 in detail

The Spendor A1.2, a compact bookshelf loudspeaker system designed as a two-way system with a 22 mm polyamide dome tweeter and a 15 cm EP77 polymer cone woofer as a low-mid driver, is the entry-level model, weighing in at 4,8 kg with dimensions of 308 x 165 x 186 mm. With a sensitivity of 83 dB and an impedance of 8 ohms, the speaker is designed for amplifiers with an output of between 25 and 100 watts and can reproduce a frequency range of 60 Hz to 26 kHz.

The second speaker system in the model series, the Spendor A2.2, is already designed as a compact floor-standing speaker system and measures 768 x 150 x 258 mm and thus weighs 11,4 kg. Here too, the developers have opted for a combination of a 22 mm polyamide dome tweeter and a 15 cm woofer with an EP77 polymer cone. With a sensitivity of 83 dB and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms, this speaker is designed for amplifiers with an output of between 25 and 100 watts and covers a frequency range between 46 Hz and 26 kHz.

The new Spendor A4.2 is also a floorstanding speaker system, but designed as a two-way bass reflex system with a tweeter in the form of a 27 mm polyamide dome tweeter in combination with an 18 cm woofer with an EP77 polymer cone. This solution measures 861 x 165 x 284 mm and weighs in at 14,5 kg. With a sensitivity of 85 dB and a nominal impedance of 6,7 ohms, this speaker is designed for amplifiers with an output of between 25 and 150 watts and can reproduce a frequency range between 36 Hz and 27 kHz.

The top model in the new Spendor A Line MK2 is the Spendor A7.2, a floorstanding speaker system measuring 934 x 180 x 305, weighing in at 17,7 kg and designed as a two-way bass reflex system. The combination of 27 mm polyamide dome tweeter and 18 cm EP77 polymer cone bass/midrange driver covers a frequency range between 33 Hz and 27 kHz, has a sensitivity of 85 dB and an impedance of 6,75 ohms, and is designed for amplifiers with an output of between 25 and 200 watts.

Four design variants available

The Spendor A Line MK2 models are available in four design variants: black oak, walnut, oak and satin white.

Finally, it should be mentioned that the Spendor A Line MK2 solutions can be upgraded to a surround system with the AC1 and Spendor AC2 speaker systems as centre speakers and Spendor AW1 on-wall speakers.

Prices and availability

According to the manufacturer, the new generation of Spendorf A Line solutions should be available from specialist retailers in the next few days. Spendor Audio Systems Ltd. gives the prices as follows: Spendor A 1.2 € 1.995,-, Spendor A 2.2 € 2.695,-, Spendor A 4.2 € 3.995,-, and for the Spendor A 7.2 € 5.295,- must be estimated.
