The German company Lindemann audiotechnik GmbH announced some time ago that it would be launching a completely new product line on the market. The so-called Lindemann Woodnote Series was to round off the existing Lindemann Musicbook Series and Lindemann Limetree Series.
The first addition to the new Lindemann Woodnote Series is the Lindemann Woodnote COMBO, an All-in-One system that, according to the manufacturer, offers everything you need for streaming in the best quality, also functions as a flexible interface and has a powerful amplifier. It is therefore a solution that is often referred to as a just-add speaker these days.
Lindemann Woodnote Series
The Lindemann Woondnote Series presents itself as a quite remarkable new product line, because the German company Lindemann audiotechnik GmbH wants to offer a perfect symbiosis of retro charm and future-oriented technology, as they describe it themselves. In order to achieve this, Lindemann audiotechnik GmbH has a quarter of a century of experience in the development of digital concepts and is therefore able to realise a product line that combines innovation with intuition. Developed by music lovers for music lovers, it combines proven concepts with state-of-the-art streaming technology and an app control system that Lindemann is convinced can set new standards.
It is emphasised that the solutions in the new Lindemann Woodnote Series all bear the ‘Made in Germany’ seal of quality, as each device is manufactured and then tested in the company’s own factory.
Lindemann Woondnote COMBO – streaming in Studio Master quality
The new Lindemann Woondnote COMBO is first and foremost a solution that allows streaming in the best quality, relying of course on the tried-and-tested platform that has been used for years and can also be found in the Lindemann Musicbook Series solutions.
This provides streaming in Studio Master quality, i.e. with data up to 24 bit and 384 kHz or DSD including DSD256. Using the Lindemann Woondnote COMBO, it is possible to access your own content in the network via UPnP as well as a wide range of services, be it TIDAL via TIDAL Connect, Spotify, Deezer, Qobuz, airable and HIGHRESAUDIO. According to the manufacturer, the product is certified as Roon-ready and can therefore be integrated directly into the media management and Hi-res audio streaming solution from Roon Labs LLC.
It can be integrated into the network via WiFi or an RJ45 Ethernet interface and Bluetooth is also available here.
Sufficient interfaces
At the rear of the Lindemann Woodnote COMBO there are digital interfaces, namely two coaxial and one optical S/PDIF as inputs, as well as another optical S/PDIF as an output. There is also a USB-A port for corresponding storage media, and a CD drive can also be connected here to allow playback of audio CDs.
What is particularly exciting is that the new Lindemann Woodnote COMBO has an HDMI port, which is designed as an eARC and is therefore ideal for integrating a TV set. There is also a pair of RCA sockets that can be used as an analogue input, for example to connect a record player using an external phono preamp. The Lindemann Woodnote COMBO also has a 3.5 mm stereo mini jack connection for headphones directly on the front.
Streaming combined with power DAC
According to the manufacturer’s description, a high-resolution streaming processor is combined with an innovative power DAC, whereby a two-stage converter design with DSD re-sampling is used. The company emphasises that there are no digital over-sampling filters during playback and that the volume control is analogue.
Amplifier with an output of 50 watts
Of course, the new Lindemann Woodnote COMBO cannot and should not be a performance miracle, rather the aim is to offer a solution that provides users with sufficient power in the most compact form, and the new Lindemann Woodnote COMBO certainly does this with its integrated amplifier module in Class D with two 50 watts into 4 ohms.
Circuit design trimmed to minimise interference
The entire structure is designed in such a way that you can consistently rely on a circuit design that is trimmed for low interference, which is achieved, for example, by a PCB layout in four layers as well as a complete separation of the digital and analogue areas and, last but not least, a fully symmetrical design.
Compact retro design
As already mentioned in the introduction, all solutions in the new Lindemann Woodnote Series are characterised by compact dimensions and an appealing design with a retro touch. Accordingly, the new Lindemann Woodnote COMBO presents itself with an aluminium housing in the so-called retro-future look, as Lindemann audiotechnik GmbH itself describes it.
In addition to the aforementioned connection for headphones, the front features a rotary encoder and a small display.
Simple control via app
Of course, a solution like the new Lindemann Woodnote COMBO cannot do without a suitable app, and the company relies on the Lindemann app for Apple iOS and Google Android, which has been continuously developed and improved over the years.
Prices and availability
According to the manufacturer, the new Lindemann Woodnote COMBO should be available from specialist retailers in the next few days. The recommended retail price is listed at € 2.250,-.
Getting to the point
The new Lindemann Woodnote COMBO, with which the German company Lindemann audiotechnik GmbH is now establishing the so-called Lindemann Woodnote Series, is designed to offer high-end in the smallest of spaces. The device presents itself as an All-in-One, thus combining streaming in Studio Master quality with a D/A converter, has numerous digital and one analogue input for external sources, and also has an integrated amplifier, so that this new solution can be clearly assigned to the Just add Speakers category. Incidentally, Lindemann audiotechnik GmbH has already hinted at another solution in the Lindemann Woodnote Series, namely – unsurprisingly – a streaming client, the Lindemann Woodnote Solo.
