There are a number of new features that the new generation of the JBL Boombox, the JBL Boombox 2, now presented for the first time at CES 2020. It will feature JBL Original Pro Sound, a more robust design, 24-hour playing time and Powerbank function.
No, it is probably not really very compact, the product class to which the new JBL Boombox 2 belongs, which the Harman Industries International Group presented for the first time at CES 2020 in Las Vegas as the successor to the JBL Boombox introduced in 2017. However, this is not the intention of the developers, who are actually presenting a portable loudspeaker rather than the best possible mobile speaker.
The JBL Boombox 2, like all solutions that fall into this category and are enjoying increasing popularity, is not designed to be a truly mobile solution that you always have with you, but as a portable active speaker that can provide the richest possible sound in the garden, on the terrace, at the barbecue outside, on the beach or pool or when camping. This is a solution designed for music for a wider audience, where rich sound and above all a long playing time are the decisive criteria, rather than the smallest possible dimensions and weight.
And the new JBL Boombox 2 should be able to show off its full potential, because, according to the manufacturer’s promise, it is equipped with JBL Original Pro Sound. According to the company, this guarantees a particularly powerful bass, clear mids and soft highs. If this alone is not enough for you, you can use the PartyBoost function to combine the JBL Boombox 2 with other compatible JBL brand speaker systems to create a whole network of speakers for playback.
Of course, this is all done “wirelessly”, i.e. via Bluetooth, so that any smartphone or tablet can act as a source, at the touch of a button.
As a true outdoor solution, the new JBL Boombox 2 is designed to be particularly robust. It is just as unaffected by bad weather as it is by water on the beach or at the pool, because the new JBL Boombox 2 is IPX7 certified and is therefore waterproof.
Even though we mentioned earlier that the new JBL Boombox 2 is probably not a solution that you carry around with you all the time, the developers have of course made sure that this solution is relatively easy to take with you. The speaker has an elegant carrying handle as part of the cabinet construction.
The battery life of the new JBL Boombox 2 is particularly impressive, as the manufacturer states that it lasts up to 24 hours. This is enough for a whole day of music enjoyment, even if you use the powerbank function to charge your smartphone directly on the JBL Boombox 2.
“Thanks to their epic sound and elegant design, our portable speakers have always been a favourite for mobile use. We’re excited to introduce the next generation of our largest portable speaker, which delivers the strongest, loudest and deepest bass yet”. – Dave Rogers, President Lifestyle Audio Division at Harman Industries International
According to the manufacturer, the new JBL Boombox 2 should be available in specialist shops as early as March 2020, but this has probably been delayed a little. But now the time has actually come and this new Bluetooth Speaker is available in specialist shops. The recommended retail price is € 499,-.
