Dali RUBICON 8 C – The new flagship of the Dali RUBICON C Series

So far, the Dali RUBICON C Series presented itself with the Dali RUBICON 6 C floorstanding speaker system and the Dali RUBICON 2 C bookshelf speaker system. Now this series of active speaker systems is being expanded with a new model, the Dali RUBICON 8 C and thus the new flagship.

The Dali RUBICON 8 C is not only the new flagship of the Dali RUBICON C Series, it is also the largest active speaker system of the Danish specialist Dali Speaker A/S to date.

The Dali RUBICON C Series, which has so far presented itself impeccably with the models Dali RUBICON 2 C as well as Dali RUBICON 6 C, is significantly upgraded with the new floor-standing speaker system. Finally, a truly impressive system is available, which combines all the advantages of an innovative active speaker system of the Dali EQUI Wireless platform in the form of the top model of the Dali RUBICON Series.

Dali RUBICON 8 C – Based on its passive sister

How could it be otherwise, the developers at Dali Speaker A/S, as with the previous models of the Dali RUBICON C Series, also rely on the features of the passive counterpart, the Dali RUBICON 8, which has been available for some time.

This is particularly worth emphasising as the Dali RUBICON Series is a truly outstanding product line from the Danes. The solutions of this loudspeaker series leave nothing to be desired, they are designed as audiophile solutions and are therefore rightly placed at the very top of the wide range of different lines. In fact, only the Dali EPICON Series can be found as a reference line above the Dali RUBICON Series.

Dali RUBICON 8 C – The ultimate high-end active loudspeaker

It comes as no surprise that Dali Speaker A/S describes the new Dali RUBICON 8 C as the ultimate high-end active wireless speaker, combining outstanding sound with modern comfort and technology. According to Dali Speaker A/S, this takes the DALI EQUI Wireless platform to a new level.

The Danish specialist even goes so far as to place the Dali RUBICON 8 C above its passive sister, as here the developers have the possibility to optimally coordinate the passive components of the speaker system with the electronics.

A 2 1/2 plus 1/2 plus 1/2-way system

The manufacturer’s characterisation of the new loudspeaker system is interesting, because Dali Speaker A/S refers to the Dali RUBICON 8 C as a 2 1/2 plus 1/2 plus 1/2-way loudspeaker system.

This describes the construction with three 165 mm bass-midrange drivers, which of course, how could it be otherwise with Dali Speaker A/S, have a membrane made of a special wood-paper fibre mixture, whereby they themselves speak of a wood fibre cone.

These three woofers are combined with a bass reflex system. Once again, the special construction of the tweeter unit is particularly exciting, as it combines a 29 mm soft textile dome and a 17 x 45 mm ribbon driver to form a so-called hybrid tweeter.

The crossover, which is a Hybrid Full Active 24 Bit DSP, intervenes at 500 Hz, 800 Hz, 2,600 Hz and 14 kHz.

The Dali RUBICON 8 C is supposed to be able to reproduce a frequency range between 36 Hz and 30 kHz.

Signal processing is always carried out on a digital level, i.e. not only for those signals that are fed in via radio using the Dali Sound Hub, which of course also represents the central interface for the new Dali RUBICON 8 C, but must be purchased as an option. Analogue sources, which can be directly connected via an RCA connector, are also immediately converted to digital. For this purpose, an A/D converter of the type Texas Instruments PCM1796 Burr Brown is available, which processes them with 24 bit and 96 kHz. For the sake of completeness, the radio transmission is also done with 24 bit and 96 kHz.

Class D amplifier

The amplifier modules used in the new Dali RUBICON 8 C are built in Class D and are based on a patented, state-of-the-art technology with a self-oscillating design with global feedback, according to the manufacturer’s description. This concept was chosen because of its very musical characteristics and because it allows for a power output of 250 watts in the most compact form.

Exquisite design

Like the entire Dali RUBICON Series and thus also the previous models of the Dali RUBICON C Series, the new Dali RUBICON 8 C also features an extremely exquisite design, whereby one can choose from three variants – black high gloss, white high gloss and walnut.

Of course, a matching speaker grill is included in the scope of delivery, which is held in position by means of magnets.

Of course, control is primarily via the optional Dali Sound Hub and its remote control, whereby an LED chain on the front of the speakers visualises every change in volume.

The Dali RUBICON 8 C measures an impressive 1.1 m in height, 22 cm in width and 44.5 cm in depth and weighs in at 27.8 kg.

Dali Sound Hub or Dali Sound Hub Compact

It should be mentioned once again that the Dali RUBICON 8 C is first and foremost part of the Dali EQUI Wireless platform and is therefore designed to work in conjunction with the Dali Sound Hub. It is also conceivable that it could work in conjunction with the Dali Sound Hub Compact. In this class, however, it is more advisable to go for the big brother, as it offers the expansion option via BluOS, which in turn forms the basis for an immensely flexible multi-room hi-res audio streaming platform.

According to the manufacturer, the new Dali RUBICON 8 C will be available in specialist shops later this year. The recommended retail price is stated at € 3,999, whereby this is the price per unit.

Getting to the point

With the new Dali RUBICON 8 C, Dali Speaker A/S not only expands the Dali RUBICON C Series with a powerful active floorstanding speaker system, but also adds the largest active speaker system to the Dali EQUI Wireless platform to date. The Dali RUBICON 8 C can be regarded as a new flagship in every respect, especially as it combines the features of a high-end loudspeaker system with the advantages of an innovative wireless control based on a constantly growing platform regarding flexibility and comfort in operation.
