Beyerdynamic T1 3rd Gen and Beyerdynamic T5 3rd Gen – The latest, third generation

Beyerdynamic T1 3rd Gen and Beyerdynamic T5 3rd Gen, so not only the third generation of these two headphones with Tesla Technology from Beyerdynamic GmbH & Co. KG, but once again true masterpieces, where craftsmanship meets innovative technologies, as the German specialist from Heilbronn says.

It was a few years ago when the German company Beyerdynamic GmbH & Co. KG literally attracted attention with a completely new technology in the field of headphones, the so-called Beyerdynamic Tesla Technology. This technology promised particularly powerful drives with an enormous variety of details, both in terms of dynamics and optimum reproduction over a wide frequency range.

Now, the third generation of drives developed by Beyerdynamic GmbH & Co. KG as hi-fi headphones with Beyerdynamic Tesla technology is now available in the form of the two new headphones Beyerdynamic T1 3rd Gen and Beyerdynamic T5 3rd Gen. The two siblings will be true masterpieces, as Heilbronn is convinced, as they combine innovative technical features with the highest German craftsmanship. While the Beyerdynamic T1 model is an open headphone, the Beyerdynamic T5 is a closed model.

As mentioned above, the Beyerdynamic T1 and Beyerdynamic T5 use the aforementioned Beyerdynamic Tesla technology. The underlying drivers are not only developed in Germany, but also manufactured directly at the company’s Heilbronn site. This is the only way to guarantee the high quality standard required for this, and also – and this is not insignificant – the full added value takes place in this country.

The special feature of the sound transducers based on Tesla technology is that they achieve a magnetic flux density of more than one Tesla, which also explains their special name. This very high magnetic flux density makes it possible to guarantee particularly high performance even when the output voltage of the source device is very weak. This guarantees that an impeccable image can be obtained from a wide variety of sources.

Explicitly Beyerdynamic GmbH & Co. KG explicitly emphasises that the models Beyerdynamic T1 and Beyerdynamic T5 are certified as Hi-Res Audio solutions, so that a high-resolution sound reproduction is guaranteed. This ensures that pieces of music are reproduced with all details. In fact, the frequency range that the two models Beyerdynamic T1 and Beyerdynamic T5 can reproduce ranges from 5 Hz to 50 kHz, with a nominal impedance of 32 ohms and a sensitivity of 100 dB. The manufacturer specifies the nominal power handling capacity for the Beyerdynamic T1 and Beyerdynamic T5 models at 300 mW each and the maximum sound pressure level at 124 dB.

The technical data of both models are therefore identical, but the two solutions Beyerdynamic T1 and Beyerdynamic T5 differ in one important aspect, namely the type of construction.

For example, the Beyerdynamic T1 is offered as open over-ear headphones, and the manufacturer states that they provide an integrated, spatial sound image, with the drivers positioned at an angle to ensure even more precise reproduction. The listener should thus have the feeling of attending a concert on location. Compared to previous generations, a careful bass boost has been applied to make the overall neutral, spatial sound image even warmer and more pleasant.

The Beyerdynamic T5 is designed as closed-back over-ear headphones, so that you are not disturbed by ambient noise at home, nor do you disturb your flatmates with music playback. This way, the attention can be focused entirely on the music. Of course, the Beyerdynamic Tesla drivers have also been arranged at an angle to guarantee a clear and natural sound image. In the latest generation, the sound tuning has been further refined, especially in the upper mids, so that voices and instruments in particular are reproduced even more realistically and clearly.

According to the manufacturer, both models have once again been manufactured to the highest standards in order to be able to offer solutions in the premium segment.

According to the manufacturer, the housing covers of the Beyerdynamic T1 have a precise, elegant hole pattern. This is achieved by a complex production process in which these design elements are worked into the painted stainless steel. The acoustic openings are precisely matched to the headphones, because the harmony of acoustics and design is what distinguishes the new generation of Beyerdynamic T1, but also the Beyerdynamic T5.

For this reason, the housing cover of the Beyerdynamic T5 is made of finely brushed and painted aluminium, which is provided with an elaborate structure. According to Beyerdynamic GmbG & Co. KG, the Beyerdynamic T5 is based on its brother’s design, but as a closed model it naturally has no acoustic openings. A very important element is the earpieces or the connection between the earpieces and the auricles, which must be particularly robust. In both models, these so-called forks are made of brushed aluminium, which is anodised.

High-quality padding on the ear cups should ensure a high level of wearing comfort, but also serve to achieve the desired sound characteristics. The core of the system is memory foam, which is covered with breathable velour on the Beyerdynamic mT1 and protein-coated artificial leather on the Beyerdynamic T5. The headband of both models is covered with Alcantara.

Of course, both headphones have detachable cables, with a length of three metres, which is practical for hi-fi applications. The core of these cables is made of OCC 7N copper, and the outside is covered with textile fabric. The cable ends in a 3.5 mm stereo mini jack plug and a matching 6.3 mm stereo jack adapter is included in the scope of delivery. Both have a gold-plated contact surface.

Both headphone models also come with a matching hardcase for optimum storage.

The new headphone models from Beyerdynamic GmbH & Co. KG are now available from specialist retailers and directly on the manufacturer’s website. Since the two headphones are largely identical, the price is also the same. The recommended retail price for the Beyerdynamic T1 and Beyerdynamic T5 is € 999,- each.
