Accuphase DP-770 Precision MDSD SA-CD Player – Developed based on the experience of the Accuphase DC-1000 and Accuphase DP-1000
Accuphase Laboratory Inc. continues to focus clearly on optical discs, not only audio CDs, but also Super Audio CDs. This is why the successor to the Accuphase DP-750 Precision MDSD SA-CD player is currently being launched, namely the new Accuphase DP-770 Precision MDSD SA-CD player.
- The new Accuphase DP-770 Precision MDSD SA-CD player is the successor to the Accuphase DP-750 Precision MDSD SA-CD player.
The Japanese High-end HiFi manufacturer Accuphase Laboratory Inc. is well aware that it serves a clientele for whom optical discs are by no means obsolete. In fact, both classic audio CDs and Super Audio CDs continue to play a very important role for the customers the Japanese company is targeting, which is why it feels almost obliged to provide them with the appropriate tools.
This is now being done by replacing the Accuphase DP-750 Precision MDSD SA-CD player with its successor, the Accuphase DP-770 Precision MDSD SA-CD player.
CD and SACD player combined with D/A converter
One very important feature of the new Accuphase DP-770 Precision MDSD SA-CD player should be mentioned right at the beginning, as it is probably a very important one for many HiFi enthusiasts. The Accuphase DP-770 Precision MDSD SA-CD player is not only a CD and SACC player, its signal processing is also open to external sources, so it also serves as a D/A converter. The manufacturer therefore also refers to it as an integrated precision SACD/CD player, and the new Accuphase DP-770 Precision MDSD SA-CD player is set to take the top position in this category at Accuphase Laboratory Inc. with immediate effect.
Based on the Accuphase DP-1000 and Accuphase DC-1000
It is emphasised that the new Accuphase DP-770 Precision MDSD SA-CD player is based on technologies from the Accuphase DP-1000 Precision SACD Transport and Accuphase DC-1000 Precision MDSD Digital Processor solutions. First and foremost, the Accuphase DP-770 Precision MDSD SA-CD player’s drive unit has been taken from the Accuphase DP-1000, which alone weighs an impressive 6,9 kg and is also mounted on a 3,4 kg base plate. This achieves the lowest possible centre of gravity and eliminates sound-damaging resonances and vibrations right from the start.
Both the suspension for the laser unit and the guide for the drive tray have dampers with two different degrees of hardness, so that everything is done to prevent any resonances.
An outer rotor brushless DC motor forms the drive, which is not only particularly precise, but also particularly quiet.
Converter from ESS Technology Inc.
The MDSD/ MDS++ D/A converter is modelled on the Accuphase DC-1000 and uses eight parallel converter channels, based on an ESS ES9028PRO Hyperstream II DAC from specialist ESS Technology Inc.
The developers have succeeded in further improving the signal-to-noise ratio of the new Accuphase DP-770 Precision MDSD SA-CD player compared to its predecessor, as the manufacturer proudly points out, by as much as twelve per cent.
Output stage with Direct Balanced Filter
Thanks to the Direct Balance Filter in the output stage, the new Accuphase DP-770 Precision MDSD SA-CD player has completely separate signal paths for the balanced and unbalanced outputs, so that unwanted interactions are avoided.
D/A converter for external sources
If you want to use the signal processing of the new Accuphase DP-770 Precision MDSD SA-CD player for external sources, you can do so via its optical and coaxial S/PDIF interface. There is also a USB port for direct connection to a PC or Mac.
The signal processing allows linear PCM data with up to 32 bits and 384 kHz, while the DSD spectrum extends up to DSD512.
Flexible connection options
When it comes to outputs, analogue ones are available first and foremost, in the form of a pair of RCA sockets for unbalanced signals and a pair of XLR sockets for balanced signals. In addition, the Accuphase DP-770 Precision MDSD SA-CD player also has an optical and coaxial S/PDIF interface on the rear panel to pass signals on digitally.
Another special feature is the so-called HS-Link, which can be used to loop in the Accuphase DG56 Digital Voicing Equaliser for sound field correction.
The front of the CD and SACD player from Japan naturally has all the relevant controls, as well as a generously proportioned display that shows all the relevant information, including the sampling frequency and sampling rate.
The new Accuphase DP-770 Precision MDSD SA-CD player measures 477 x 156 x 395 mm and weighs an impressive 28.5 kg. This is not only due to the aforementioned massive design of the drive and the base plate, the rest of the chassis is also extremely solid, right down to the aluminium front panel, which is 11 mm thick.
Prices and availability
The new Accuphase DP-770 Precision MDSD SA-CD player should be available from specialist retailers in the next few days. The recommended retail price for this solution is listed at € 19.200,-.
Getting to the point
The new Accuphase DP-770 Precision MDSD SA-CD player is designed to guarantee music performance at the very highest level from Audio CD, Super Audio CD or a wide variety of different digital sources, as promised by the Japanese High-end HiFi manufacturer Accuphase Laboratory Inc., which is thus presenting the successor to the Accuphase DP-750 Precision MDSD SA-CD player.
