PS Audio aspen FR10 Loudspeaker – Ideal for any room

It all began with the PS Audio aspen FR30, the first time the US high-end hi-fi manufacturer presented a speaker system with this solution, and one that boasted particularly sophisticated technology and impressive design. The smaller sister PS Audio aspen FR20 is now followed by the new smallest sister, the PS Audio aspen FR10 speaker system.

Story Highlights
  • The new PS Audio aspen FR10 Loudspeaker is the most compact loudspeaker system ever presented by the US high-end hi-fi manufacturer PS Audio.

The US high-end hi-fi manufacturer PS Audio describes the PS Audio aspen FR10 Loudspeaker as a loudspeaker system that appears to be an affordable solution for as many hi-fi enthusiasts as possible, yet does not require any compromises in terms of sound quality. Once again, it is described as a full-range state-of-the-art loudspeaker, a solution that should fit into any room and not overstretch the budget.

With the third speaker system in the PS Audio Aspen Series, the PS Audio Aspen FR10 Loudspeaker, PS Audio rounds off the product line in this area at the bottom end, joining the PS Audio aspen FR30 Loudspeaker and PS Audio aspen FR20 Loudspeaker models.

A state-of-the-art loudspeaker system

It was the declared aim of the developers to realise a state-of-the-art full-range loudspeaker system with exceptionally low distortion for outstanding reproduction with flawless tonality, which is also distinguished by its exquisite beauty. This is how PS Audio described the very first speaker system, the PS Audio aspen R30 Loudspeaker, at the end of 2021.

With a good dose of irony, the company said that the development of the PS Audio aspen R30 Loudspeaker took 50 years, so it took five decades to learn down to the smallest detail what works and what doesn’t, what is necessary for a loudspeaker to “disappear” and only the magic of the music remains.

All this should also apply to the second model, the PS Audio aspen FR20 Loudspeaker, which is presented as the second model, and also to the smallest loudspeaker now presented, the PS Audio aspen FR10 Loudspeaker, whereby the characterisation “small” here is of course to be understood solely relative to its larger siblings PS Audio aspen FR30 and PS Audio aspen FR20.

PS Audio aspen FR10 Loudspeaker – The most compact model

The PS Audio aspen FR10 Loudspeaker is the most compact and user-friendly state-of-the-art full-range speaker system, according to PS Audio. Smaller and lighter than the PS Audio aspen FR30 and PS Audio aspen FR20, the new PS Audio aspen FR10 still combines exceptionally low distortion, great bass, seamless tonality and easy placement in any room.

Chris Brunhaver is once again primarily responsible for the development, who initially relies on two newly designed 6.5 inch woofers at the front to ensure a particularly solid bass performance, in combination with three passive drivers found on the back in number with dimensions of 6 x 9 inches each.

The new PS Audio aspen FR10 also uses an 8-inch planar ribbon midrange drive and a 2.5-inch planar ribbon tweeter based on the technology of the larger models, but adapted for the more compact dimensions of this model. Interesting detail, this tweeter is now at the top, where the midrange driver was located in the other siblings.

The three-way system has a sophisticated crossover based on 4th order Linkwitz-Rilley filters that start at 550 Hz and 1.75 kHz and should be able to reproduce a frequency range between 32 Hz and 20 kHz. The impedance is reported as 4 ohms and the sensitivity as 86.5 dB. This makes the loudspeaker system suitable for amplifiers with an output of between 50 and 200 watts, as the manufacturer states in the data sheet.

The elegantly shaped housing is elaborately braced on the inside and is intended to make a significant contribution to achieving the promised minimal distortion and vibration. This is optionally available in Satin White or Satin Black. The loudspeaker system seems to float on the extremely elegant aluminum base and, if desired, the front can be decorated with a black loudspeaker grill that is held in position by magnets.

With dimensions of 105,41 cm in height, 29,85 cm in width and 41,28 cm in depth, the PS Audio aspen FR10 speaker system weighs 34,1 kg.

Prices and availability

The new PS Audio aspen FR10 loudspeaker system will soon be available from specialist retailers. As already mentioned, Satin White and Satin Black are available as design variants. The selling price is around € 11.999,- per piece.

Getting to the point

It is already the third loudspeaker system that the US high-end hi-fi manufacturer PS Audio from Boulder in the US state of Colorado is now presenting in the form of the PS Audio aspen FR10 loudspeaker. It will hardly come as a surprise that they rely on technologies that were already found in their big sisters, the PS Audio aspen FR20 and PS Audio aspen FR30, but it is surprising that they are also talking about a state-of-the-art full-range speaker, which does not require any compromises, especially since it is a solution that is suitable for every room and every budget.
