Klipsch Reference Premiere III Series – New Tractrix Horn and Nine Loudspeakers for Stereo and Home Cinema

Klipsch has reorganised one of its core loudspeaker ranges around nine models for stereo and multichannel installations. The Reference Premiere III Series retains the brand’s horn-loaded treble system and copper-coloured Cerametallic drivers, while introducing a flush-mounted High-density Axial Tractrix Horn, revised cabinets and several practical construction details. Its scope extends from bookshelf loudspeakers to a floorstander with integrated up-firing Dolby Atmos channels.

Story Highlights
  • The third generation of the Klipsch Reference Premiere Series is an exercise in focused evolution rather than a change of identity. A revised Tractrix horn is intended to improve off-axis response and widen the usable listening area, while nine coordinated models allow buyers to assemble anything from a conventional two-channel system to an immersive Dolby Atmos home cinema. The range is scheduled to reach authorised dealers in October 2026.

A loudspeaker range designed for both stereo and home cinema has to solve two rather different tasks. A pair of speakers must work as a coherent musical system, while a multichannel installation depends on consistent voicing, predictable dispersion and models that can be combined without compromise. That broader system perspective defines the Klipsch Reference Premiere III Series.

Klipsch Group Inc. has developed nine passive loudspeakers for the new generation. The line-up includes three floorstanding models, two bookshelf designs, two centre speakers, a dedicated surround loudspeaker and a flexible elevation model. The flagship Klipsch RP-8263FA goes a step further by incorporating its own up-firing Dolby Atmos section.

Unveiled globally at Audio Advice Live 2026 in Raleigh, North Carolina, during the year of the company’s 80th anniversary, the new series remains immediately recognisable as Klipsch. Its identity still rests on horn-loaded high-frequency reproduction and copper-coloured Cerametallic drivers. The more important changes concern dispersion, cabinet construction, resonance control and installation.

A Range Built Around Complete Systems

The Klipsch RP-6203F, Klipsch RP-8203F and Klipsch RP-8263FA form the floorstanding part of the range. While all three can serve as the main channels of a stereo or home cinema system, the RP-8263FA occupies a special position through its integrated Dolby Atmos height section.

For rooms or systems that call for more compact enclosures, Klipsch offers the RP-5103M and RP-6103M bookshelf loudspeakers. They can operate as the main pair in a smaller stereo installation or take on front, rear or surround duties within a multichannel configuration.

The RP-5203C and RP-5403C provide two differently proportioned centre-channel options, allowing the central loudspeaker to be selected according to the scale of the system. The RP-5203S is conceived specifically for surround use, while the RP-5103SA covers height-channel applications and can also be mounted directly on a wall.

This structure matters more than the number of products alone. All nine models belong to the same technical family, allowing a system to grow while retaining a consistent loudspeaker platform.

Dispersion Becomes the Central Upgrade

The High-density Axial Tractrix Horn is the most significant technical revision in the Klipsch Reference Premiere III Series. Klipsch uses a reworked BMC material intended to reduce resonances, while the horn itself now sits flush with the baffle rather than forming a more pronounced transition at the front of the cabinet.

According to Klipsch, this arrangement reduces unwanted wave break-up around the horn and baffle interface. The company also claims measurably improved off-axis behaviour and a wider sweet spot.

That promise has relevance beyond the familiar question of where one should place a listening chair. In a stereo system, more even dispersion can make the presentation less dependent on a narrowly defined central position. In a home cinema, where several viewers may be seated across a sofa or in multiple rows, consistent off-axis response becomes even more important.

Klipsch therefore treats the revised horn not simply as a new component, but as the acoustic foundation of the entire third-generation range.

Cerametallic Drivers Preserve the Klipsch Identity

The horn has changed, but the copper-coloured Klipsch Cerametallic drivers remain. They continue to give the Reference Premiere models their unmistakable visual signature and form the bass and midrange counterpart to the horn-loaded treble section.

Klipsch associates these drivers with powerful yet controlled low-frequency reproduction. Combined with the horn system, they are intended to maintain the established Reference Premiere balance of efficiency, dynamics and detail.

Keeping these defining elements was an important decision. The Reference Premiere III Series is not meant to replace its predecessor’s character with an unrelated concept. Instead, Klipsch has concentrated on areas where the existing formula could be refined without making the range feel unfamiliar.

Dolby Atmos in the Cabinet or Added Later

The Klipsch Reference Premiere III Series supports two fundamentally different routes to height reproduction. The RP-8263FA integrates an up-firing Dolby Atmos section directly into its floorstanding enclosure. Sound is directed towards the ceiling and reflected towards the listening area, creating the height dimension without requiring loudspeakers to be installed in the ceiling.

For a living room in which structural work or visible ceiling speakers are undesirable, this is the most self-contained solution in the range. The front loudspeaker and its corresponding height channel occupy a single cabinet, reducing the number of separate enclosures in the room.

The Klipsch RP-5103SA offers the modular alternative. It can be placed on top of a suitable floorstanding or bookshelf loudspeaker and used as an elevation speaker, again employing ceiling reflection for Dolby Atmos reproduction. Klipsch also provides for direct wall mounting, giving installers and users another option when the room or the chosen system layout calls for it.

The distinction is useful: the RP-8263FA incorporates the height channel from the outset, whereas the RP-5103SA allows Dolby Atmos to be added or positioned separately.

Knife-edge Cabinets and a More Stable Foundation

Klipsch has also revised the physical construction of the loudspeakers. The new Knife-edge Cabinet Design introduces a cleaner, more contemporary outline and is claimed to improve structural rigidity.

The copper-coloured drivers remain the dominant visual accent, while removable Floating Fabric Grilles allow the front to appear considerably more restrained when required. Every model is offered in Ebony and Walnut, keeping the choice deliberately classic rather than expanding the range with a large number of decorative finishes.

The floorstanding loudspeakers receive adjustable metal outrigger feet. Their wider stance should improve stability, while Klipsch also links the construction to better mechanical decoupling from the floor, reduced cabinet resonance and a more precise response.

Redesigned rear connection panels complete the structural revisions. These are details rather than a reinvention of the loudspeaker, but they support the underlying objective of making the third generation more resolved in both appearance and installation.

From Two Channels to Immersive Home Cinema

The Reference Premiere III Series does not force buyers to decide between a stereo-oriented range and a separate home cinema family. Its floorstanding and bookshelf models can form conventional two-channel systems, while the centre and surround speakers extend the same platform into multichannel use.

The RP-8263FA and RP-5103SA then provide the two height-channel options required for Dolby Atmos. For the lowest frequencies, Klipsch points towards its Reference Premiere Subwoofer Series, which includes traditional larger bass-reflex designs as well as newer compact sealed models.

The result is a modular approach in which the system can be adapted to the room, the number of channels and the intended application without changing loudspeaker families. A compact stereo pair can remain just that, while a larger installation can use coordinated front, centre, surround, height and subwoofer solutions.

Klipsch Optimized Mode for Onkyo AV Receivers

Compatible Onkyo AV receivers offer an additional integration feature in the form of Klipsch Optimized Mode. Users select the relevant Klipsch loudspeaker model in the receiver’s setup menu, after which the intended crossover settings are applied automatically.

This does not replace the wider configuration and calibration of a home cinema system, but it simplifies one of the basic setup stages. The feature is especially relevant when several Reference Premiere III models are combined in a complete multichannel installation and the correct crossover values would otherwise have to be entered individually.

The Most Important Advantages at a Glance

  • Revised Tractrix horn: The new BMC material and flush baffle integration are intended to reduce resonances and wave break-up.
  • Wider listening area: Improved off-axis behaviour should provide more consistent coverage beyond a narrowly defined central seat.
  • Nine coordinated models: The range supports compact stereo systems as well as extensive multichannel configurations.
  • Two Dolby Atmos approaches: The RP-8263FA integrates height channels, while the RP-5103SA provides a modular alternative.
  • Recognisable Cerametallic drivers: Klipsch retains the copper-coloured diaphragms that define both the appearance and technical identity of the series.
  • Reworked cabinets: The Knife-edge design combines a cleaner shape with increased structural rigidity.
  • Consistent finish options: Ebony and Walnut are available across the complete range.
  • Simplified AV setup: Klipsch Optimized Mode supplies suitable crossover settings on compatible Onkyo AV receivers.

Getting to the Point

Klipsch has resisted the temptation to redefine the Reference Premiere Series for the sake of presenting a dramatic generational break. Its third iteration keeps the horn-loaded treble section, copper-coloured Cerametallic drivers and broad system philosophy that make the range immediately identifiable.

The real work has gone into how the loudspeakers behave within a room and how easily they can be assembled into a coherent installation. The flush-mounted Tractrix horn and its claimed improvement in off-axis response are therefore more consequential than a purely visual redesign would have been. At the same time, nine models, two Dolby Atmos strategies and integration with compatible Onkyo AV receivers give the range a clear practical logic.

It is a measured evolution of an established loudspeaker family – and for a platform intended to serve everything from a stereo pair to an immersive home cinema, that appears to be precisely the right approach.
