Naim Uniti Star Lite – The Uniti Star Now Focuses Entirely on Streaming
The Naim Uniti Star Lite leaves CD playback and ripping behind, but the rest of the Uniti Star formula remains decidedly substantial. Naim Audio Ltd. combines its NP800 streaming architecture with a 2 × 70 W Class A/B amplifier, extensive analogue and digital connectivity, a 5 inch colour display, multiroom functionality and support for professional smart-home systems. “Lite” therefore describes a more tightly defined source concept rather than a reduced amplifier.
- The Naim Uniti Star Lite is designed for listeners whose music now comes primarily from streaming services, Roon, network storage or connected digital sources. It dispenses with the original Uniti Star’s CD mechanism and ripping function, while retaining the amplifier, streaming platform, display, app control and extensive connectivity that made the earlier model so versatile. For systems no longer dependent on physical discs, it promises a cleaner interpretation of Naim’s All-in-One concept without reducing its role as the centre of a complete HiFi system.
Removing one of a product’s most distinctive features can either sharpen its purpose or simply make it less interesting. With the Naim Uniti Star Lite, Naim Audio Ltd. is clearly arguing for the former. The British HiFi manufacturer has taken the established Uniti Star and eliminated its integrated CD drive, including the ability to rip discs to attached storage.
That change shifts the product’s centre of gravity. The new model is built around streaming, network audio and connected sources, yet it remains a fully integrated HiFi solution rather than becoming a simple network receiver. Its NP800 streaming card, Class A/B power amplifier, analogue and digital inputs, HDMI ARC, multiroom capabilities and broad range of control options all remain central to the design. The term “Lite” should therefore be read as a decision about media rather than musical ambition.

A Familiar Uniti, Minus the Disc Mechanism
The previous Naim Uniti Star occupied a rather unusual position among premium All-in-One systems. It combined network streaming and amplification not merely with CD playback, but also with the option to rip discs and archive the resulting files on connected storage. That made it attractive to listeners who wanted modern streaming without abandoning a physical music collection.
The Naim Uniti Star Lite draws a firmer line. According to Naim Audio Ltd., its internal architecture has been streamlined around digital sources and streaming, removing the optical mechanism and its associated functions. Anyone who still regards CD as an important source will plainly lose something here. Listeners who rely on TIDAL, Qobuz, Spotify, Roon, a UPnP server or USB storage, however, are no longer asked to accommodate hardware they may seldom use.
Visually, the newcomer remains unmistakably part of the Uniti family. Its low-profile enclosure measures 432 mm wide, 95 mm high and 265 mm deep, while the weight has fallen to 11 kg. The design therefore keeps the compact, deliberately understated appearance of its predecessor rather than signalling the change of direction through an entirely new chassis.
The NP800 Platform at the Heart of the System
Naim’s NP800 streaming card remains responsible for the digital side of the amplifier. The manufacturer uses LVDS – Low Voltage Differential Signalling – for digital signal transmission within the unit, with the aim of limiting interference between its internal sections.
Its service support is deliberately broad. Spotify Connect, TIDAL, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz and Qobuz Connect are joined by Apple AirPlay 2, Google Cast and Internet Radio. Music stored elsewhere on the home network can be accessed through UPnP, while Roon Ready certification allows the Naim Uniti Star Lite to become an endpoint within a Roon system.
Locally stored music is not restricted to the network. Naim provides one USB-A port at the front and another on the rear panel, together with an SD Card slot. Network access is available through 10/100 Mbps Ethernet or WiFi according to IEEE 802.11ac.
Hi-res Playback Extends to 32 Bit 384 kHz and DSD128
The supported file formats extend well beyond the requirements of mainstream streaming services. Naim Audio Ltd. specifies WAV playback at resolutions up to 32 Bit 384 kHz, alongside FLAC, AIFF and Apple Lossless ALAC. Compressed formats include MP3, AAC, OGG and WMA.
Native DSD support covers DSD64 and DSD128, and gapless playback is available across all supported formats. The limits for external digital sources depend on the input used: the optical TOSLINK connections accept signals up to 24 Bit 96 kHz, while the coaxial S/PDIF inputs handle up to 24 Bit 192 kHz and DoP for DSD64.
This gives the Naim Uniti Star Lite two distinct digital roles. It can retrieve music directly through its own streaming architecture, but it can also serve as the central converter and amplifier for external digital transports and other source components.
2 × 70 W and a Dual-Supply Power Architecture
The absence of the CD section has not altered the amplifier’s quoted output. The Naim Uniti Star Lite delivers 2 × 70 W into 8 Ohm at 0,1 % THD+N through a conventional Class A/B design, matching the output rating of the previous Uniti Star.
That specification makes it a complete electronics solution for a conventional pair of passive loudspeakers, not merely a streaming front end requiring separate amplification. The broad source support therefore sits within a genuinely integrated system concept: add loudspeakers, connect the network and the core installation is complete.
Naim Audio Ltd. also continues to separate the demands of sound quality and low standby consumption within the power-supply design. A linear supply based around a generously dimensioned toroidal transformer serves the audio-related circuitry, while a separate switch-mode supply handles the sections required for efficient standby operation. Control and audio circuits are galvanically isolated, and the quoted standby consumption is below 0,5 W.
Enough Connections for More Than Streaming
A strong streaming platform would be of limited use if the rest of the system had nowhere to go. The Naim Uniti Star Lite therefore retains a notably broad input selection. Analogue equipment can be connected through stereo RCA or Naim’s familiar 5-pin DIN interface.
Digital sources are accommodated by two optical TOSLINK inputs, two coaxial S/PDIF inputs on RCA and a further coaxial S/PDIF input using BNC. HDMI ARC allows the amplifier to handle television sound, making it possible to use the same loudspeakers for music, films and other sources connected to the TV.
A configurable RCA output can operate as either a Pre Out or Sub Out. Headphones connect through a 3,5 mm stereo mini-jack on the front panel. The result is an All-in-One amplifier that can anchor a mixed system of network, television, analogue and digital sources despite the new emphasis implied by its name.
Three Ways to Take Control
The front panel is dominated by a 5 inch colour display that presents playback information clearly from across the room. Physical controls provide direct access to standby, play and pause, source selection and favourites, so routine operation does not depend on reaching for a phone or tablet.
Naim also supplies a bi-directional ZigBee RF remote control. Because it communicates by radio rather than conventional infrared, it requires no direct line of sight to the amplifier. Volume changes are reflected on the remote itself, providing useful feedback even when the unit is not immediately visible.
For browsing libraries and streaming services, the Focal & Naim App for Apple iOS and Google Android offers the more comprehensive interface. It provides access to music collections, playlists and Internet Radio, manages other compatible Naim streaming products and handles wireless firmware updates. Voice control is available through Apple Siri and Google Assistant.
Multiroom Across Naim and Focal Products
The Naim Uniti Star Lite can operate as a stand-alone system, but it is also intended to participate in the wider network environments of Naim and Focal. Through UPnP, it can distribute music in CD quality to as many as four network players.
Party Mode expands synchronous playback to as many as six compatible Uniti, Naim or Focal streamers, all managed through the Focal & Naim App. This allows the amplifier to remain the main system in one room while also contributing to a broader whole-home audio installation.
The distinction matters because the Uniti Star Lite is not simply a compact amplifier with a few streaming services attached. Its network functions extend beyond personal playback and into the coordination of several compatible systems around the home.
Prepared for Professional Control Systems
Naim Audio Ltd. also provides for installations in which the amplifier must operate within a wider building-control environment. The Naim Uniti Star Lite supports Control4, Crestron, Elan, RTI and Savant, covering several of the platforms commonly employed in professional smart-home and Custom Installation projects.
That support enables audio playback to be incorporated into interfaces that may also control video, lighting and other building functions. Combined with multiroom operation, radio-frequency remote control and app-based management, it gives the Uniti Star Lite a degree of flexibility that extends well beyond a conventional living-room amplifier.

Price & Availability
Naim Audio Ltd. has officially introduced the Naim Uniti Star Lite and already lists it as its new streaming amplifier. At present, however, the manufacturer has not confirmed a recommended retail price for Germany, Austria and Switzerland or provided a firm date for widespread availability across the DACH region. The relevant regional price and availability information will be added once it has been announced.
Getting to the Point
The name “Lite” does the Naim Uniti Star Lite few favours. What Naim Audio Ltd. has reduced is the range of physical media, not the authority of the amplifier, the scope of the streaming platform or the system’s ability to accommodate external sources. For an audience now centred on streaming, Roon and network libraries, removing the CD mechanism gives the Uniti Star a more explicit contemporary purpose.
Yet the omission is not trivial. The earlier Uniti Star belonged to a dwindling group of premium All-in-One products capable of combining serious streaming facilities with CD playback and disc ripping. Owners who valued precisely that bridge between physical and networked music may find the new model less complete, irrespective of how logical the change appears from a broader market perspective.
For everyone else, the Naim Uniti Star Lite remains a substantial full-system proposition: streaming platform, DAC, Class A/B amplification, television connectivity, multiroom control and smart-home integration in a single enclosure. The unanswered question is price. Until Naim Audio Ltd. confirms its DACH positioning, it is impossible to judge how persuasively the removal of the CD hardware will be reflected in the overall proposition.
