Melco Audio becomes DELA Inc. to celebrate its 50th anniversary

The network specialist Buffalo Inc. will no longer offer its network product solutions for the consumer electronics sector as Melco Audio, but under the DELA brand.

For years, the Japanese network specialist Buffalo Inc. has dedicated itself to a very special target group under the Melco Audio brand, namely discerning HiFi and home cinema enthusiasts. They are provided with solutions that are designed to offer the highest level of performance as well as particularly accurate signal transmission.

The Japanese company has now announced that it will change its name to Melco Audio in July 2025 as part of a reorganisation of the Buffalo Inc. group of companies. Melco Holdings Inc., the official company name behind the Melco Audio brand, will now become the DELA brand, which is now backed by DELA Inc.

Melco Audio – A company with 50 years of history

The Japanese network specialist Buffalo Inc. was initially founded in 1975 as an audio manufacturer in Nagoya under the name Melco by Makoto Maki. Over the years, due to changing market conditions, the company has focussed on the IT sector and, above all, network solutions under the company name Buffalo Inc.

The relaunch of the Melco Audio brand a good ten years ago was therefore a return to the roots.

Particularly high-quality network solutions, also for the audio and video sector, were also sold in Japan under the DELA brand name, making the DELA brand an established brand in the premium segment, at least in the company’s home market.

To mark the company’s 50th anniversary

anniversary year, the company is now taking a significant step forward under a new brand name, as the Japanese company has now announced. DELA Inc. is to be the future name of the company, and Melco Audio will become the DELA brand name alone.

DELA stands for “to go beyond…” in French, and in the local dialect around Nagoya this term means ‘extreme’, which fits very well with the products that the company will focus on in the future.

The background to this is that the Japanese company wants to market all of its solutions under a single brand in future in order to simplify communication and thus strengthen its commitment to a broad international market.

DELA offers a comprehensive range of digital audio solutions designed specifically for music lovers and home cinema enthusiasts.

These include music libraries and digital music servers, which are used to store and manage high-resolution music files. These allow CDs to be ripped directly and played via USB DAC and have been designed in such a way that they do not rely on conventional IT solutions, but rather have an audio-first architecture to minimise noise.

Another key area is, of course, network switches specifically for consumer electronics at the highest level. These are optimised Ethernet switches that reduce network noise and jitter and, in contrast to standard IT switches, rely on particularly sophisticated circuits.

The company also offers drives and storage devices, with a focus on audio-compatible SSDs and HDDs for external storage or expansion. These should be silent, stable and designed to complement music servers.

Not forgetting system integration tools such as backup solutions, app control and seamless integration into an existing audio or video setup.

Getting to the point

Until now, solutions from the Japanese company Buffalo Inc. designed for the consumer electronics sector were sold internationally under the Melco Audio brand, with Melco Holding Inc. as the company behind them. In Japan, the company offered specialised network solutions in the premium audio segment under the DELA brand. Now, as part of a reorganisation, the company is being standardised and renamed. In future, Melco Audio’s products will be offered solely under the DELA brand of DELA Inc., whereby DELA will follow Melco’s product range and the products will therefore remain technically unchanged. However, according to the German distributor DREI H Vertriebs GmbH, some models will be removed from the range, but new solutions will also be added to the product range.
