Yamaha NS-3000 and Yamaha SPS-3000 – True sound in a compact form

Loudspeaker systems equipped with innovative technologies to meet even the highest demands, this is how Yamaha Music Europe GmbH describes the new compact Yamaha NS-3000 solutions that focus on absolute fidelity. Optional accessories include the matching stand in the form of the Yamaha SPS-3000.

There are companies that are actually involved with their products in all areas of “music”, such as the Japanese company Yamaha Corporation. This company is a really “big player”, because they cover countless areas. In the field of “music” in the broadest sense, the spectrum actually ranges from the most diverse instruments to studio equipment and equipment for live sound reinforcement to consumer electronics in the most diverse forms, from entry-level systems to high-end hi-fi. It is therefore fair to say that we have a profound expertise that has been acquired over decades and that we know exactly what it means to reproduce music without any distortion.

This is why the latest Yamaha NS-3000 loudspeaker systems from Yamaha Corporation are true sound speakers. Their task is to guarantee absolute fidelity for vivid, authentic music reproduction in the living room.

“For a genuine and emotional reproduction, the interaction of many components is necessary.”

The basis for the new Yamaha NS-3000 to meet the demands for absolute fidelity is the use of innovative technologies. The developers’ formula is to use the best drivers for the best sound, and they also rely on an optimised cabinet and fine electronics. Naturally, they also draw on their experience in the development of the Yamaha 5000 Series, specifically the flagship Yamaha NS-5000 speaker systems.

As with the aforementioned Yamaha NS-5000 and the corresponding amplifiers and other hi-fi components of the Yamaha 5000 Series, Yamaha Corporation is also making a direct connection to electronic solutions in the new Yamaha NS-3000, especially to the recently announced Yamaha A-S3200, which is recommended as the optimal playing partner for the new loudspeaker system.

As already indicated, the new Yamaha NS-3000 is a shelf speaker system, but with dimensions of 244 mm width, 394 mm height and 326 mm depth, it is already in the middle of this class. Moreover, the speaker weighs 13.1 kg.

This is mainly due to a very solidly designed housing, which has elaborate struts inside to prevent vibrations that could damage the sound and thus provide the drivers with the best possible conditions. According to the manufacturer, newly developed acoustic absorbers are intended to reduce the influence of standing waves in the housing. Incidentally, the design was optimized by FEM analysis and laser measurements.

The new Yamaha NS-3000 is a two-way bass reflex system that uses a combination of a 16 cm woofer and a 3 cm tweeter. The system uses so-called Cylon drivers, which offer a speed comparable to beryllium, but also have the characteristic softness of textiles. This is intended to give a precise and spatial effect, but without being cold or even hard. The tweeter comes directly from the Yamaha NS-5000, whereby a so-called resonance suppression chamber is used on the rear side.

For the crossover network, we once again rely on the finest components of the highest quality, above all audio capacitors of the Mundorf MCap SUPREME EVO type, which are used in parallel with a generously dimensioned voice coil of the woofer.

The connection panel is also made of impeccable components, the loudspeaker connections are made of solid brass to ensure reliable signal transmission and thus the highest possible signal integrity.

Yes, the new Yamaha NS-3000 is a bookshelf speaker system, but once again, this is not a term that should be taken too literally, especially when you expect the best results, and certainly not with speakers in this league. It is therefore to be welcomed that Yamaha Music Europe GmbH has designed special stands for the new Yamaha NS-3000, as this literally provides the optimal foundation.

With the Yamaha SPS-3000, there are special feet available for the Yamaha NS-3000, which provide a solid base for the NS-3000 and also bring it up to the optimum listening height for optimal sound dispersion in the room.

The developers have opted for a rubber and MDF construction, with the speakers themselves sitting on a solid 6 mm thick metal plate. Of course, spikes allow the best possible decoupling.

According to the manufacturer, the new Yamaha NS-3000 should be available in specialist shops from August 2020. This also applies to the matching Yamaha SPS-3000 stands. Yamaha Music Europe GmbH has quoted a recommended retail price of € 4,099 per unit for the Yamaha NS-3000, with the stand costing € 999.
