Only a few days ago Roon Labs LLC. presented the Roon 1.8 Summer Release, now a small service update follows in the form of Roon 1.8 Build 814, which comes up with no new features, but with various bug fixes.
Just a few days ago, Roon Labs LLC. presented the so-called Roon 1.8 Summer Release. This is now followed by another update, Roon 1.8 Build 814, which is now available.
The Roon 1.8 Summer Release was Roon 1.8 Build 806 and introduced some exciting new features. The now available Roon 1.8 Build 814, on the other hand, is designed as a pure service update.
Roon Daily Mix causes problems
One of the main innovations of Roon 1.8 Build 806 was the introduction of the Roon Daily Mix function, which should present the user with a new selection of interesting albums every day. This selection is determined using the Valence Technology integrated in Roon, which can be described as the “intelligence” of the complete media management and multi-room audio streaming solution.
This is ultimately an interplay of local functions supported by a server infrastructure at Roon Labs LLC. itself, and thus massive problems arose around the broad rollout of this new Daily Mix feature.
Roon Labs LLC. notes in a statement:
“While many Valence features deliver personalized results, the release of this particular feature to all Roon users around the world stressed our servers in unexpected ways, and we’ve been gradually fixing the server-side issues.”

They say they are now confident that most users will now be able to take advantage of updated recommendations every day, with the latest update they are delivering some additional changes to ensure Daily Mix and other recommendation features are delivered consistently.
This new version Roon 1.8 Build 814 also includes some minor changes, including a more consistent display of bit depth and sample rate, and a fix for Roon Bridge update issues.
Roon Build 814 is now available for Apple macOS, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Windows 64 bit, Roon OS and Linux. Updated versions of Roon for Google Android and Apple iOS have been submitted to their respective app stores and will be available soon, the developers said.
It should be added that a version 814 of Roon Bridge is also available for Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Windows 64 bit, Roon OS and Linux. All platforms and apps should update automatically.
Getting to the point
Even though Roon Labs LLC. spoke almost succinctly of the Roon 1.8 Summer Release, this update – Roon 1.8 Build 806 – contained some great new features, including the Daily Mix feature. However, the rollout of this option overtaxed the server infrastructure of the software company, and a few other bugs had to be ironed out. All of this is now done in the course of the release of Roon 1.8 Build 814.
