McIntosh MI1250 12-Channel Digital Amplifier
The new McIntosh MI1250 12-channel digital amplifier, which McIntosh Laboratory Inc. has designed for two application scenarios, will prove to be a real powerhouse. On the one hand, it can function as a power amplifier in a home cinema, but also for custom installations in general.
With the new McIntosh MI1250 12-Channel Digital Amplifier, a solution is available that initially attracts attention by the fact that it is a power amplifier with twelve channels. But this also makes it clear that McIntosh Laboratory Inc. is aiming this solution at users with special requirements.
The new McIntosh MI1250 12-Channel Digital Amplifier will probably find its place first and foremost in exclusive home cinema installations.
McIntosh MI1250 12-Channel Digital Amplifier primarily designed for Custom Installation
Generally speaking, the new McIntosh MI1250 12-channel digital amplifier has been designed primarily for experts in the field of custom installation, i.e. it is not aimed directly at end customers.
Here, of course, the home cinema sector stands out in particular, although one can hardly speak of normal home cinema solutions, as end customers normally realise them around an AV receiver, but actually an installation that finds its place in a technical cabinet.
Of course, it is also possible to integrate the new McIntosh MI1250 12-channel digital amplifier into a multi-room audio installation, where it addresses different zones in the house.
The new McIntosh MI1250 12-Channel Digital Amplifier is equipped with all the necessary prerequisites for both of these scenarios.
The manufacturer itself refers to the new McIntosh MI1250 12-Channel Digital Amplifier as a particularly versatile 12-channel digital amplifier that, according to McIntosh Laboratory Inc, can distribute unadulterated music reproduction to several rooms in the house or serve multi-channel systems. It delivers 50 watts to speaker systems with an impedance of 8 ohms or even 90 watts to solutions with an impedance of only 4 ohms. It uses sophisticated closed-loop digital switching amplifiers paired with extremely robust power supplies to achieve power levels rarely seen in distributed audio.
Equipped with all the features of a McIntosh
Of course, the new McIntosh MI1250 12-Channel Digital Amplifier comes with all the features that normally characterise amplifier systems from McIntosh Laboratory Inc.
Thus, the manufacturer lists McIntosh Power Guard as well as McIntosh Sentry Monitor around the new McIntosh MI1250 12-Channel Digital Amplifier.
On the rear panel are unbalanced inputs and 2-pole Phoenix speaker connectors for each channel. Also on the rear panel are volume controls for volume balance, as well as 2 digital audio inputs (coaxial as well as optical S/PDIF interfaces) that can be connected via a bus, and channel summing circuits for easy mono signal distribution.
A 12-volt trigger function for automatically switching other connected components on and off is of course also included.
On the front, multi-coloured LED indicators show the status of the individual channels.
Although the new McIntosh MI1250 12-Channel Digital Amplifier is primarily intended for rack mounting and is supplied with the appropriate mounting brackets for this purpose, it nevertheless features many McIntosh design characteristics, including a black glass front with an illuminated McIntosh logo and a familiar shape that is highlighted by silver trim. Incidentally, in the rack, the new McIntosh MI1250 12-Channel Digital Amplifier requires two height units.
Getting to the point
With the new McIntosh MI1250 12-channel digital amplifier, McIntosh Laboratory Inc. is not so much aiming directly at the end customer, but rather at the steadily growing custom installation segment, whereby this solution is especially suitable for multi-room audio, but also for home cinema.
