Gold Note Mediterraneo X Turntable - A new icon for its 10th birthday

A record player that has never been seen before is how the Italian high-end hi-fi manufacturer Gold Note describes the solution they are presenting on the occasion of the company's 10th anniversary, namely the new Gold Note Mediterraneo X Turntable.

Story Highlights
  • Inspired by the Gold Note Mediterraneo, this new drive from Gold Note is to be presented on the occasion of its 10th anniversary, the Gold Note Mediterraneo X.

Record players have always been an important segment of the Italian brand Gold Note, so it comes as no surprise that on the occasion of its 10th anniversary, the company is now presenting a very special turntable, the new Gold Note Mediterraneo X Turntable. Akamai s.r.l., the company behind the Gold Note brand, describes this new record player as a true icon, a turntable that has never existed before.

Based on the Gold Note Mediterraneo, Gold Note is convinced that the new record player offers a solution that is characterised by outstanding design, exclusive materials and outstanding sound quality.

Gold Note Mediterraneo X Turntable – A Unique Turntable

The new Gold Note Mediterraneo X Turntable is a turntable in which the past and the future of the Gold Note brand are condensed, according to the undoubtedly very metaphorical description of the new record player. In addition, the Italians are not at a loss for superlatives when describing the features of this new turntable, which is understandable, after all – on the occasion of its 10th birthday – it is supposed to be a very special product.

The fact is that they are trying to combine the analogue world with the digital one, at least where it seems to make sense, in order to be able to come up with a particularly high precision, as well as with features that were previously unknown in this form in record players.

Inspired by the Gold Note Mediterraneo Turntable

The fact that the Gold Note Mediterraneo was used as the basis for the development of the new Gold Note Mediterraneo X is not only immediately obvious from the name, but the design of the new model is also clearly oriented towards the turntable from Florence, which has been available for quite some time.

Thus, the new Gold Note Mediterraneo X presents itself with a chassis consisting of three components, namely a solid plate of aluminium, a 3 mm thick stainless steel plate, and a solid block of Italian walnut wood.

The underside of the walnut wood imitates a chain line, whereby one refers to the works of the Renaissance as a great model, such as works by Michelangelo.

This is intended not only to achieve a particularly appealing design, but also to maximise structural strength, which is possible with minimal mass and dimensions.

The chassis rests on height-adjustable feet made of anodised aluminium, which emphasise the slender appearance.

Highly precise drive

In principle, it is a conventional belt-driven turntable, but this time a 12 V synchronous motor is used, which offers particularly precise speed control. The manufacturer promises that a specially developed control concept based on an audio converter and a quad-core microprocessor is used. In addition, an external power supply is available to contribute significantly to the precise speed control. The turntable is made of a combination of aluminium and POM and has a mass of 7 kg. It rotates in a split-spindle design in a bearing bush with a 4.3 mm ceramic bearing ball. The turntable is driven by a precision-ground EPDM belt.

Recording the operating hours of the pick-up system

The Gold Note Mediterraneo X is equipped with a Gold Note B-7 Ceramic Premium High-precision tonearm, a gimbal-mounted 9-inch tonearm.

A special feature of the new Gold Note Mediterraneo X is that it features an electronic timer that records the operating hours of the cartridge. This should allow the wear of the needle to be recorded, at least “on paper”, so that one can look for a replacement if necessary.

This is displayed on a touchscreen display, which can be used to conveniently control all functions of the record player and also to fine-tune the speed and torque delivered by the motor.

The new Gold Note Mediterraneo X measures 470 x 360 x 210 mm, weighs around 25 kg and comes with a matching protective cover made of transparent, dark grey acrylic.

Prices and availability

It is not yet clear when and at what price the new Gold Note Mediterraneo X will actually be available in specialist shops.
