Story Highlights
  • The new Silent Angel Munich MU from Thunder Data Co. Ltd. should prove to be the solution for the highest quality, unrivalled variety and ease of use.

The new Silent Angel Munich MU is not only the latest network streamer, it is above all the flagship of the Silent Angel Munich Series and is designed to provide audiophile playback with the highest quality equipment, an unrivalled variety in the choice of sources and convenient operation.

The manufacturer Thunder Data Co. Ltd. talks about a Silent Angel brand solution with a double-layer aluminium housing, a powerful base thanks to a 6-core processor, a precise clock and a state-of-the-art D/A converter for audiophile sound quality. The seamless integration of leading streaming services and convenient control via an intuitive app are also praised.

Silent Angel stands for outstanding components

The manufacturer is convinced that it has exclusively developed outstanding solutions from the very beginning and that the new Silent Angel Munich MU can fulfil correspondingly high expectations when talking about the new flagship.

As a so-called network streamer, the new Silent Angel Munich MU is intended to serve as the central interface for the playback of music from a wide variety of sources, and this at a particularly high level of quality. It is therefore tailor-made for audiophile HiFi enthusiasts and particularly demanding music lovers.

Powerful platform

Even if it doesn’t dress like one, the new Silent Angel Munich MU is of course a piece of IT at its core, focussing on the highest possible performance. In this specific case, it is said to be a 6-core processor, with a dual-core Cortex 72 with 1.8 GHz and a quad-core Cortex A53 with 1.4 GHz sharing the tasks, supported by 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of system memory for the firmware and operating system.

There is no additional memory ex works, but the new Silent Angel Munich MU can be expanded to up to 8 TByte with an M.2 NVMe SSD.

Two USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 port are also available for the integration of external storage solutions. Integration into the network takes place via an RJ4 Gigabit Ethernet interface.

VitOS Orbiter app for convenient control

The smart brain of the Silent Angel Munich MU is its software, which can be conveniently accessed using the intuitive VitOS Orbiter app, which is available for Apple iOS and Google Android. This allows direct access to the leading streaming services as well as to existing music data that the network streamer can conveniently manage. Thanks to the aforementioned option of integrating an SSD with up to 8 TByte, it can even mutate into an independent music server if desired.

Converter from ESS Technology Inc. and high-precision TCXO clock

Other key features of the Silent Angel Munich MU include a particularly precise clock signal in the form of a high-precision TCXO clock, which serves as the basis for signal conversion. If required, however, an external source can also be accessed via a 10 MHz word clock input implemented as a BNC.

Signal conversion is based on an ESS SABRE DAC from ESS Technology Inc., which can process signals in linear PCM with up to 32 bits and 768 kHz, as well as DSD with up to DSD256 and also content encoded in lossy MQA.

From dlna to Apple AirPlay 2

In addition to a wide range of streaming options such as Spotify via Spotify Connect, TIDAL via TIDAL Connect and Qobuz, the Silent Angel Munich MU also supports UPnP as a dlna-certified streaming client and Apple AirPlay 2.

In addition to playback of all relevant file formats via the network or various storage media, digital signals can be processed directly via a USB audio port with up to 32 bit and 768 kHz as well as DSD256 from a PC or Mac.

All relevant interfaces, high-quality manufacturing

In addition to an AES/EBU, an I2S via HDMI and a coaxial S/PDIF interface as digital outputs, a pair of RCA sockets and a pair of XLRs are available as analogue outputs.

Finally, the solid power supply based on a switching power supply, the double-layer aluminium housing and the choice of premium audiophile-grade audio components, as the manufacturer itself puts it, all of which are intended to contribute significantly to the outstanding quality promised by Thunder Data Co. Ltd. for the new Silent Angel Munich MU.
