Story Highlights
  • To celebrate its 50th birthday, Naim Audio Ltd. presents the Naim NAIT 50 Limited Edition, a reissue of the 1983 Naim NAIT 1 amplifier.

The company Naim Audio Ltd. is considered one of the renowned English hi-fi manufacturers and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, they are presenting the Naim NAIT 50 Limited Edition amplifier system, which is a new edition of the very first amplifier of this type, the Naim NAIT 1 from 1983.

As befits such an exclusive product, the new Naim NAIT 50 Limited Edition will be produced in Salisbury, UK, in a run of just 1.973 units, according to the company.

Based on the Naim NAIT 1

The new Naim NAIT 50 Limited Edition is based on the legacy of the Naim NAIT 1, as Naim Audio Ltd. describes the new compact stereo integrated amplifier. It is a very simple amplifier that concentrates on the essentials in terms of features.

The underlying technology is also described by Naim Audio Ltd itself as the quintessence of what Naim Audio Ltd is all about.

The new Naim NAIT 50 Limited Edition is a fully linear integrated amplifier in Class AB, delivering two times 25 watts of power to speaker systems with an impedance of 8 ohms. If the speaker systems have an impedance of only 4 ohms, the output per channel is still 40 watts.

The new Naim NAIT 50 Limited Edition has three inputs: two line-ins, designated as aux and stream, and DIN connections, plus a phono preamplifier that is accessible via a pair of RCA sockets and is designed for drives fitted with MM cartridge systems.

The input selection is made with the help of input selection buttons, so-called interlock switches, which ultimately control three relays. Of course, this is very reminiscent of the 1980s, but the circuitry has been considerably improved compared to the Naim NAIT 1.

Also new is an integrated headphone amplifier, accessible via a 6.3 mm stereo jack directly n the front, and an automatic switch-off after 17 minutes was not an issue in the 1980s, but is available on the new Naim NAIT 50 Limited Edition.

Aesthetically based on the original from the 1980s

Of course, the main focus of the design was to match the original from the 1980s as closely as possible, so the so-called chrome bumper design was used, i.e. an extruded aluminium profile with a rectangular cross-section that forms the shell. The front and the connection panel are kept in matt black, whereby the front also has a rotary encoder as a volume control in addition to the already mentioned input selector switches, the connection for headphones and a power LED.

Measuring 20.7 cm wide, 32.1 cm deep and 8.7 cm high, the new Naim NAIT 50 Limited Edition weighs in at 4.5 kg.

Prices and availability

As already mentioned, no more than 1.973 units of the new Naim NAIT 50 Limited Edition will be available. If you want to get hold of one of these pieces, you will have to budget € 2.999,-.

Getting to the point

No more than 1.973 units will be available of the Naim NAIT 50 Limited Edition, a stereo integrated amplifier designed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Naim Audio Ltd, now reminiscent of the Naim NAIT 1 from 1983. Ultimately, it is a compact stereo integrated amplifier that concentrates on the essentials, but in view of the rather spartan equipment, it has a very proud price.
