Primare AB is one of the few High-end HiFi manufacturers that still specialises not only in HiFi, but also in AV systems. The latest generation of AV systems from Primare AB, the Primare SP25 Prisma and Primare SPA25 Prisma, are intended to prove that this is still being done with great commitment.
With the two systems Primare SP25 Prisma and Primare SP25A Prisma, the company is not only presenting a new AV processor, but also a new AV receiver, both equipped with the latest technology for home cinema at the highest level, as the manufacturer promises.
Primare SP25A Prisma Home Cinema Integrated Amplifier – For home cinema enthusiasts
The new Primare SPA25 Prisma is designed for home cinema enthusiasts with high demands on functionality and quality, as the Swedes promise. It is an AV receiver that boasts state-of-the-art features and represents the new flagship in the home cinema sector.
With its dimensions of 430 mm x 400 mm x 145 mm, it weighs in at 12 kg and has a tidy front panel. At first glance, the new AV receiver looks almost like a classic HiFi component, with the Swedes opting for understatement.
However, the chic aluminium casing of the Primare SPA25 Prisma conceals numerous talents, as Primare AB states. This solution is the ideal interface for a powerful home cinema system. This is made possible by the use of specially developed Class-D amplifier technology for plenty of power from nine channels in the new Primare SPA25 Prisma.
This allows the construction of classic 5.1-channel home cinema systems through to 5.1.4 or even 7.1.2-channel solutions for the playback of content in immersive surround sound such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. With an additional power amplifier such as the Primare A35.2, the powerful processor of the Primare SPA25 Prisma can also manage 7.1.4-channel systems.
The Primare SPA25 Prisma delivers an impressive nine times 90 watts to speaker systems with an impedance of 4 or 8 ohms, as the manufacturer states; it relies on ESS 9026PRO converters from ESS Technology Inc. It has 4 HDMI inputs and two HDMI outputs, which are equipped for 4K UHD content and support HDCP 2.2. The AV receiver also has optical and coaxial S/PDIF interfaces as well as USB-A and USB-B and a number of analogue inputs and outputs. Integration into corresponding control solutions is of course possible via RS232 and 12 V trigger.
Optimum configuration with DIRAC Live
The linchpin of an optimal AV system is the best possible adaptation to the room, and the new Primare SPA25 Prisma uses DIRAC Live to achieve this. The room correction is based on up to 17 measuring points, which are determined using the microphone included in the scope of delivery, thus guaranteeing a precise, always accurate presentation of surround sound for film and music.
Versatile streaming solution with Primare Prisma Technology
Primare AB has been pursuing its own streaming strategy for years, based on the streaming platform Primare Prisma Technology, which was developed in-house. This not only relies on the only actual industry standard in this area – UPnP – but also on Apple AirPlay 2 and Google Chromecast technologies. Spotify Connect and TIDAL Connect are also supported. Other streaming services such as Deezer and Qobuz are also made available via the Primare Prisma app, and the Primare Prisma Technology platform is labelled as Roon Ready.
Anyone who wants to use streaming outside of a network infrastructure, via which streaming solutions based on Primare Prisma Technology are integrated using an RJ45 Ethernet interface or WiFi, can do so via Bluetooth. This allows smartphones, for example, to function directly as a source in the simplest possible way.
Primare SP25 Prisma Home Cinema Preamplifier Processor – The AV processor and AV preamplifier
The new Primare SP25 Prisma has exactly the same functions and features, but it is only an AV processor or AV preamplifier, so this solution lacks the corresponding power amplifiers.
However, the home cinema enthusiast can rely on the support of a power amplifier of the calibre of a Primare A35.8 Power Amplifier, which can provide an impressive eight times 150 watts of power to speaker systems with an impedance of 8 ohms, or even eight times 300 watts to just 4 ohms. With the aforementioned Primare A35.2 Power Amplifier, you can also utilise the full potential of the AV processor with 11-channel signal processing.
The Primare SP25 Prisma preamplifier measures 430 x 405 x 145 mm and weighs in at 10 kg.
Prices and availability
The two new AV systems from Primare AB are available now, with a choice of titanium or black. The manufacturer’s recommended retail price is € 4.750,- for the Primare SP25 Prisma Home Cinema Preamplifier Processor and € 5.620,- for the Primare SP25A Prisma Home Cinema Integrated Amplifier.
Getting to the point
Primare AB is one of the last High-end HiFi manufacturers that is still dedicated not only to classic HiFi, but also to Home Cinema, a market that has been subject to a merciless price war in recent years and still is. As a result, the focus was on as many features as possible, regardless of whether these were actually relevant for home cinema enthusiasts in practice or not. Quality, on the other hand, often fell by the wayside. With the new systems from Primare AB, the Swedes want to offer exactly that again, quality, but of course also solid features that are actually relevant for the realisation of solutions for demanding home cinema enthusiasts.
