The real special feature, however, is that the new headphones from the FiiO brand are over-ear headphones with an open design.
The new FiiO FT3 Large Dynamic Hi-res Over-ear Headphones are a first for the personal audio device specialist, which is once again broadening its headphone product portfolio.
FiiO FT3 – First open-back over-ear headphones from FiiO
The company FiiO Electronics Technology Co. Ltd. is well known as a specialist for personal audio devices. For years, the company has focused on the development of DAPs and is considered the leading supplier on the market, as well as on portable D/A converters and headphone amplifiers, but also increasingly on headphones in recent years.
What is particularly exciting is that FiiO Electronics Technology Co. Ltd. is a pioneer in this field, constantly raising the bar for what can be packed into in-ear headphones in terms of the latest technology.
It goes without saying that the brand’s very first over-ear headphones with an open design are just as ambitious.
Not the first over-ear headphones
For the sake of completeness, it should be mentioned that these are not the first over-ear headphones from FiiO Electronics Technology Co. Ltd. as a whole. The Chinese company has already presented a pair of headphones of this kind once before, in the form of the FiiO EH3 NC Wireless Headphone.
Over-ear headphones with sophisticated diaphragm
The FiiO FT3 are open-back headphones with large 60mm drivers housed in an aluminium alloy body that is both strong and lightweight. While headphones with larger drivers are often noticeably larger and heavier, FiiO’s engineering team has created the FT3, an ergonomic, comfortable headphone that weighs just 391g.
The 60 mm drivers of the FiiO FT3 were developed based on a DLC (Diamond-like Carbon) diaphragm and an element with beryllium coating. DLC ensures a particularly high stiffness, although it is a particularly light material. This is further enhanced by the beryllium coating.
The result of all these measures is that the FiiO FT3 is able to react extremely quickly and at the same time accurately to the signals applied, thus showing an impressively detailed performance over a wide frequency range with the lowest possible distortion. According to the manufacturer, the FiiO FT3 offers a frequency response from 7 Hz to 40 kHz, with a sensitivity of 105 dB and an impedance of 350 ohms.
It should also be emphasised that the developers placed the drivers in the ear cups of the FiiO FT3 in such a way that they always radiate parallel to the user’s ear, so they are slightly angled in. According to the manufacturer’s description, this leads to a significantly wider sound image and reduces reflections and distortions.
Furukawa Monocrystalline Copper – Particularly high quality cables
The developers at FiiO Electronics Technology Co. Ltd. also rely on particularly high-quality cables for the new FiiO FT3 Large Dynamic Hi-res Over-ear Headphones, which are based on monocrystalline copper. Of particular interest is the fact that the cable can be detached, of course, and that the scope of delivery includes a wide variety of connection adapters. The spectrum ranges from 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack and 6.3 mm stereo jack to 4.4 mm Pentaconn and 4-pin XLR.
Particularly high wearing comfort and robust workmanship
We have already mentioned that the new FiiO FT3 Large Dynamic Hi-res Over-ear Headphones rely on a solid construction, primarily using aluminium. We also mentioned that the headphones can be rotated in three axes to achieve an optimal fit regardless of head size and shape.
Soft ear pads, which are removable, are also supposed to ensure maximum comfort. The scope of delivery even includes two different versions of ear pads, one as Protein Leather Earpads and one as Suede Earpads.

Ltd. is celebrating with the presentation of the new FiiO FT3, because even though the company could already refer to a broad product range in the headphone sector, these were – with one exception – in-ear headphones. The new FiiO FT3 are the first over-ear headphones with an open design.
