FiiO BR13 Hi-res Bluetooth Receiver – Bluetooth, S/PDIF and USB-C

According to FiiO Electronics Technology Co. Ltd., Bluetooth receivers are considered to be extremely successful, so that the company decided to develop the new FiiO BR13 Hi-res Bluetooth receiver, a high-quality solution at a particularly attractive price.

Story Highlights
  • With the new FiiO BR13 Hi-res Bluetooth Receiver, another solution from the desktop audio range of FiiO Electronics Technology Co. Ltd. is launched.

For years, FiiO Electronics Technology Co. Ltd. has been one of those suppliers who have given Bluetooth receivers a lot of attention and have been extremely successful with them. The latest offspring from China will probably also contribute significantly to this, as the new FiiO BR13 Hi-res Bluetooth Receiver is supposed to be a particularly attractive solution, as the specialist for personal audio devices and desktop audio solutions promises.

With the new FiiO BR13 Hi-res Bluetooth Receiver, the company is offering another solution in the field of desktop audio, which is intended to address a large number of users with particularly flexible options and a particularly favourable price.

Designed for a particularly broad customer base

For some time now, the company has been focusing on solutions that allow mobile devices to be easily integrated into existing audio systems via Bluetooth. For the new FiiO BR13 Hi-res Bluetooth Receiver, however, extensive market analyses have been carried out in order to realise a particularly versatile product that users can use in many different ways and thus for a wide variety of tasks.

The new FiiO BR13 Hi-res Bluetooth Receiver is intended to be much more than a conventional Bluetooth receiver; the manufacturer even refers to it as an attractively priced control centre.

Compact and elegant in appearance

First of all, it should be said that the new FiiO BR13 Hi-res Bluetooth receiver is a very compact and also elegant solution, which comes with an aluminium housing, completely in black.

The front is adorned with a centrally arranged LCD, which is supposed to display all relevant information in a clearly readable manner at all times, flanked by several buttons.

Central interface

All connections of the FiiO BR13 Hi-res Bluetooth Receiver are located on the back, and there are a surprisingly large number of them. First of all, there is a connection for an antenna to guarantee optimal signal transmission for the integrated Bluetooth interface. In addition, there are two optical S/PDIF interfaces, one as input, the other as output. The coaxial S/PDIF interface can be used either as input or output, and of course there is also a pair of RCA sockets for analogue output.

The FiiO BR13 thus also allows a so-called SPDIF conversion and SPDIF bypass. The so-called S/PDIF conversion means that the signals can be converted to an optical or coaxial S/PDIF output via the optical or coaxial interfaces of a TV, set-top box or DVD player. The S/PDIF bypass enables the simultaneous connection of optical and coaxial signals and saves the annoying plugging and unplugging of cables.

Bluetooth or USB-C including UAC1.0 for Sony PS5 and Co.

Signals are processed wirelessly via a Qualcomm QCC5125 Bluetooth module from Qualcomm Inc. in conjunction with an ES9018K2M DAC from specialist ESS Technology Inc. and a TPA1882 op-amp from Texas Instruments. A particularly precise quartz oscillator is supposed to set the clock, and there are five low-noise LDOs and a special OVP power management chip for stable and high-quality audio transmission.

Seven Bluetooth codecs are supported here, including hi-res audio-compatible codecs such as aptX HD, aptX LL and LDAC.

Source devices can be connected directly via a USB-C interface, whereby the FiiO BR13 also supports UAC 1.0 for Plug & Play with Sony PS5, Nintendo Switch and other gaming devices.

With the so-called FiiO Black Technology, all sources can be upsampled to 24-bit and 96 kHz, the maximum resolution of the new FiiO BR13 Hi-res Bluetooth Receiver.

It should also be mentioned that the new FiiO BR13 Hi-res Bluetooth Receiver has an integrated equaliser, which can also be accessed directly via the buttons on the front, but can be edited particularly conveniently with the FiiO Control App for Apple iOS and Google Android.

Prices and availability
