Denon S-Series – Three new 8K AV systems for small and medium-sized rooms
The latest Denon AV systems, the Denon AVR-S670H, Denon AVC-S670H and Denon AVR-S770H, are designed to combine spectacular surround sound, including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, with unsurpassed 8K picture quality to deliver a unique cinema experience, Masimo Consumer promises.
Masimo Consumer recommends the latest Denon AV systems, the Denon AVR-S670H and Denon AVR-S770H AV receivers and the Denon AVC-S670H AV amplifier, as the optimal solution for small and medium-sized rooms. The new systems are aimed at home cinema enthusiasts who want the outstanding audio performance of the Denon S-Series and unsurpassed picture quality in 8K, all at a particularly attractive price.
This is a very exciting proposition for those who want to experience movies and music at a new level of quality, is the promise of Masimo Consumer for the latest systems from its wholly owned subsidiary, Japanese consumer electronics company Denon.
The new Denon S-Series models
The latest models of the Denon S-Series are said to offer all the features that can be expected from modern home cinema systems, even if, as already mentioned, the new AV receivers Denon AVR-S670H and Denon AVC-S670H as well as the AV amplifier Denon AVR-S770H are products that can clearly be assigned to the entry-level segment.
Surround sound with 5.2-channel or 7.2-channel configuration
The Denon AVR-S770H is the most versatile of the new systems, being a 7.2-channel 8K AV receiver. The Denon AVR-S670H is a 5.2-channel 8K AV receiver, as is the new Denon AVC-S670H, which, unlike the aforementioned systems, does not have an analogue FM or AM tuner and is therefore not an AV receiver, but an AV amplifier.
Masimo Consumer describes the Denon AVR-S770H 7.2-channel 8K AV amplifier as a solution that offers spectacular 3D surround sound with Dolby Atmos or DTS:X, and combines this with the unsurpassed picture quality of 8K video processing. This guarantees nothing less than a unique cinema experience.
The Denon AVR-S670H and Denon AVC-S670H are said to be at the heart of a powerful 5.2-channel surround system, supporting content up to 8K. For sound, however, the two systems are content with Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio surround playback.
Powerful surround sound based on discrete high-current amplifier modules
According to the data sheet, the Denon AVC-S670H, based on discrete high-current amplifier modules, delivers 75 watts into 8 ohms on all channels, and the same applies to the Denon AVR-S670H. The Denon AVR-S770H is also said to be capable of delivering 75 watts per channel to speaker systems with an impedance of 8 ohms.
A glance at the rear reveals that all three new AV systems offer essentially the same equipment in terms of interfaces, i.e. six HDMI inputs and one HDMI output, with support for 8K UHD, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG, HDCP 2.3 and the output can be used as eARC.
For audio, in addition to digital inputs – S/PDIF coaxial as well as optical – analogue connections are fortunately also available, and even a phono preamplifier has been thought of, albeit only in the form of a circuit designed for MM cartridge systems.
All three systems can be set up quickly and easily using the Denon Setup Assistant, which of course also provides automatic room calibration and correction based on Audyssey MultEQ Room Correction Technology. Other algorithms supported by the specialist are Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Audyssey Dynamic Volume.
HEOS Built-In and Bluetooth included
Of course, all AV systems are equipped with HEOS Built-in streaming technology and can be integrated into the network via cable or WiFi, so that you can play back hi-res audio in all relevant formats from a wide variety of sources. Services such as TIDAL, Spotify and many more are available here, as is the playback of your own content. Playback directly from USB storage devices is also possible, for the sake of completeness. The support of Apple AirPlay 2 and Google Chromecast, whereby control via voice – Apple Siri or Google Assistant – is also possible, ensures flexibility. In addition, the systems are also designated as Works with Amazon Alexa, so they can also be used with this voice control system.
The simplest way to stream music is, of course, Bluetooth, which should also be mentioned in conclusion.
And even if every system is delivered with a suitable remote control, especially the control of movie viewing is usually done with the remote control of the TV (HDMI CEC), the most intuitive way of control is the Denon AVR Remote App, which is offered for Apple iOS and Google Android. The HEOS app, which is available for both Apple iOS and Google Android, takes over the simple control of streaming, whereby multi-room hi-res audio streaming is also possible if you have other HEOS built-in systems.
