Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A6A and Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A8A – Now with Auro-3D on board

The Yamaha AVENTAGE Series Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A6A and Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A8A network A/V receivers are now able to play back content encoded in Auro-3D, adding another immersive surround sound format.

Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A6A and Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A8A are the flagship AV systems of the Yamaha AVENTAGE Series, the solutions that Yamaha Music Europe GmbH describes as versatile and flexible multimedia control centres for home cinema with the finest sound from the best hi-fi components. So far, the systems have offered almost everything the heart of even the most ambitious home cinema enthusiast could desire, and now the last “gap” is likely to be closed.

The two network AV receivers Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A6A and Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A8A are now available with an update that expands their capabilities to include signal processing of content in Auro-3D, another so-called immersive surround format.

Auro-3D for immersive sound worlds

The Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A8A and Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A6A network AV receivers, the flagship products of the Japanese manufacturer, were already at the cutting edge of three-dimensional sound with Yamaha DSP, Surround:Ai, DTS:X and Dolby Atmos, if you want to put it that way. Nevertheless, the manufacturer now says that the integration of Auro-3D opens up completely new worlds of sound.

The algorithm developed in the Belgian Galaxy Studios places immersive audio objects with precise localisation in virtual space and thus ensures a fascinating film and gaming experience, Yamaha Music Europe GmbH is convinced.

The magic of the Auro-3D format, introduced in 2005, lies in the introduction of height representation as a third dimension, according to Yamaha Music Europe GmbH. The additional information is encoded and an intelligent algorithm calculates the content of the height channels directly in the AV receiver.

Auro 9.1 or even Auro 11.1

The Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A6A with nine power amplifiers supports Auro 9.1 with, for example, five channels in the lower level plus four height speakers or seven in the lower level and two front height speakers. Thanks to the 11-channel processing, an 11.1 setup is also possible with an additional stereo output stage.

The top model, the Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A8A, offers 11.1 sound directly with its eleven power amplifiers, and the manufacturer even speaks of superlative surround sound.

Both network AV receivers from Yamaha combine the Auro decoder with the Auro-Matic upmixer, which is supposed to enable completely new sound dimensions even with content in conventional surround formats. The prerequisite for this is, of course, that the user has an Auro-3D compatible speaker setup.

In addition, the Auro-Matic can be set as desired during playback. From opulent effects reproduction for action films to slight upmixing for jazz and pop music, everything is possible. The developers have taken special care to ensure that there is no tonal shift compared to the original and that gaps between the first and second speaker levels are avoided.
